Not sure why a 007 group wasn't created before, but I'm glad it's finally here! Why not get the ball rolling with the greatest Bond of all, Sean Connery...just wondering if this might be an actual one of his? Thanks!

I would say it's probably genuine.

When I saw all your posts I looked to see if there was a Bond type group and surprised there wasn't. So here it is and congratulations on being the first member, Greg.  I'm sure I can find a nice door prize for you lol

Connery will always be #1 in my eyes

speaking to your example...

Which resembles his book signatures and it certainly has the overall appearance of looking good

But the bottom loop of the S and the e don't proportion well to me

That being said, I still find Connery to be very difficult to authenticate as he is so heavily forged

For sure it's Pete Bendu's eyes that are needed here and glad Joe commented as well

Pete Bendu, the master himself, would definitely be a welcome addition to the group!!

Yes, now that you bring it to my attention, the bottom of the 'S' does look a bit too rounded. But what initially had me thinking about it was the 'er' at the end of Connery. I've never seen it like that before, its usually the up and down spikes, if you know what i mean...

Thanks to you as well Joe!

Ive spent a lot of time collecting Bond autographs and Connery is an absolute nightmare. This falls into the seated charity signed autographs. Supposedly Connery signed numerous pictures for charities exactly like this... however, ive never been able to get any more specifics than that on this type of autograph. These autographs have been sold by numerous reputable dealers as well as a well know European site which I wont name...

The 'charity' autographs are all signed exactly like this with 'best wishes' and a very neat Connery autograph. This is undoubtedly one of them. So here is the conundrum... does anyone have any info on the charities/sit down events where he actually signed these?

Connery's autograph is famously messy, but this style of 'charity' autograph is the one most commonly being sold by reputable dealers. I do think that the characteristics are similar enough to guaranteed authentic examples to assume that they are the real deal.. but given how many of this style autograph are floating around, i find it very curious that there is no further info available. Can anyone help?

Also worth noting... given how sloppy his actual autograph is, Ive always found his handwriting a better indicator of authenticity. This is especially important when sorting out the numerous secretarials out there.

Thanks for the reply TQ! Is the certain European site based in Germany by any chance? ;) Yes I've had dealings with him back when I was starting out in the autograph hobby...luckily I was able to get all my money back, once alerted by others on this site!

But you are correct, once I compared this to other 'charity' pieces online, it definitely seems to fall into that category. So, I guess until we have a definite confirmation from someone in the know about this particular style, we'll have to be cautious about it?

For comparison, here's an in-person example from the early 80's that was deemed to be ok. Like you said, a BIG difference between in-person and sit down, if indeed the original example turns out to be!

Hahah I think we're on the same page ;) Hypothetically speaking, I'd imagine many European sellers probably have very good inventories and do genuinely stock some great stuff at full price... but I image much of the stuff they might auction would be laughable... particularly if they were to show a photo of one item and then ship a suspiciously similar, yet different one...which is a real shame because they could be a great resource if only they were trustworthy!

As for the charity thing... yeah its a mystery. There are so many of this 'charity style' autograph out there, they have become a category on their own. They do share many characteristics with guaranteed authentic Connery's... but I just don't understand why no seller can ever give more info than 'it was signed as part of a charity signing'. Like surely if he signed this many (ive come across 1000s) there would be a record or more info about it. I mean, Sean Connery sits down and signs a 1000 8x10's... thats a story by itself.

So yeah, they are beautiful autographs and there is a very very good chance they are legit... but having been a Bond collector for years, Im still no closer to coming to a definite verdict, so Id be cautious until we can uncover more. I might start a post in this forum and see if we can dig any deeper about Connery in general.

Yep that IP looks great!

I've transferred this bookplate discussion to here in hopes that it may shed some light on Greg's, which I am leaning towards authentic. A portion of the "S" and the "e" make me a bit suspicious, but something about the "onnery" is something I don't think a forger would pick up on. TQ mentioned that looking at the "Best WIshes" can help in identification which has some truth...BUT ...  there was one on here awhile ago with a decent Best Wishes but a bad signature. The whole thing has to pass the test.

Plus a few other book signings

And these are all PSA certified below;

And mine again

And TQ's again

And here is Greg's to make things easier for comparison

I believe the initial post to be genuine. I have a signed in-person photo which matches and a number of the signed books, which came direct from the publisher.

Here is the photo for comparison, with an in-person Untouchables press folder item.

thank you once again for your inputs Richard and showing us pieces of your most impressive collection.

Everyone seems to think or lean towards authentic  by this point

Greg... may I make a request?

Can you make an addition to your title... maybe something like, "plus many exemplars included". This is turning into a good exemplar thread

Always welcome!

For members info, my Connery photo, Untouchables press kit (also signed by Kevin Costner) and some books are for sale!

What do members think of this signed bookplate?  Thanks

It looks to be in line with similar signed bookplates. I would say genuine.
