Not sure why a 007 group wasn't created before, but I'm glad it's finally here! Why not get the ball rolling with the greatest Bond of all, Sean Connery...just wondering if this might be an actual one of his? Thanks!

Not sure why in this specific case although here is a page that addresses the possibilities.

I was able to win the last signed bookplate in an ebay auction.  The other(red outline) is still out there, and some new ones listed all from UK sellers.

Yep as stated these are both legit bookplates- the only difference is the red one is personalised where as the w&n one is the generic bookplate used for many Orion publications (publishers of the book). Interestingly, every red bookplate has him signing in a thick black texta and tends to be more cursive, whereas every generic bookplate has a thin black texta and is almost written rather than signed. You can see the same thing in my two examples (the one that has been framed was a red bookplate). I suspect Connery did all the red ones one day and all the generics another.

Goodcat, I made the title change as per your request...good idea! ;)

So it would seem to me, after seeing all these examples, that there are two main types of Sean Connery signatures out there, the sit down type where all the letters are visible in the "onnery", and the rushed in-person examples where it looks more like "^^^^^y" (hard to type here, but with the more 'spiked' letters). Since we know the in-person ones are genuine, and no one here has actually 'seen' him sign the sit down ones, I'm just throwing it out there that they may perhaps be secretarials?? Or at least the charity ones perhaps? It just seems there is wayyy too much of a difference between the guaranteed in-person examples and those super neat bookplates and such.

The bookplates are authentic. I do think that Sean's brother signed for him for a period of time although mostly TTM requests(at least I heard that).

Yeah that’s a fair thought, but we know that Connery is generally prepared to do things for charity (he actually supports the whales amongst others!) and also if it means making money. We also have the printed sig in the book, which was obviously signed by him in the same era, that matches both the charity and bookplates. The secretrials he used to send out through the mail were quite distinctive too and very different.

I went through that train of thinking but I’m pretty confident the bookplates and the charity ones are the real deal.. as you say done in a sit down environment where he is not frustrated at being disturbed and has agreed to be there. They actually match quite closely with the vintage ball point sigs- his autograph had always been more just him writing his name quickly than stylised.

i did a bit of study on Connery years ago which I’ll upload tonight. Oh and having gone back through it- I realise that back when I was putting it together I discovered and confirmed that he did in fact do a signing for the multiple sclerosis society (can’t remember how I worked that out but I’ll go through my notes).

id still love to work out more about these signings though- eg which other charities and when.

thx Greg

this is turning into a very nice thread with great information

Both these are from bond collectibles, I hear good & bad about BC

figured I ask the experts

I have had good experiences with BBC for the most part. A lot of the stuff I bought from them I had authenticated by JSA. I bought atleast a couple dozen items from them and only two items did not pass JSA Authentication. They were easy to deal with and I got my money back without a problem. But seriously you can get some good Bond stuff at some decent prices from those guys. They have a cool eBay store. They've done private signings with R.Moore and all of their Rodger Moore stuff is good.  And they have a really cool selection of super rare signed Rodger Moore photos. I would steer clear of the cuts. Both the items thst failed for me were cuts. One Donald Pleasence. One Hervé Villechaize.

If you stick to their full price stuff on their website it's usually pretty good. I'd be exceptionally cautious about anything they auction though... And my rule of thumb is, if i pay for an apple and then am given a pear, im going to look elsewhere when I want to buy a mango...

Can I ask where you heard that they did a private signing with Sir Roger Moore?

It said so right on one of their eBay auctions. I began exchanging emails with the owner of BBC questioning him about his private signings and finally he just sent me some pictures of him sitting a hotel room with Moore signing away... I believed him.

Here is a picture of a super cool oversized Rodger Moore autograph from Moonraker that was signed at one of BBC's private signings. As you can see it is an unmistakable (later years) RM autograph.

Apparently he did signings with some villains and some Bomb Girls as well. I'm not saying they're perfect because they are not. I was just looking at a Ray Fiennes on their eBay store.

But    have obtained Judi dench's autograph in person on several occasions and the ones he has in his autograph store look authentic to me. Either they are authentic or they have a really talented artist signing the pictures. Even the ones that start off at 1$ look authentic.

The Kevin Mclory cheque is a pretty cool piece of history (he was the guy that co-wrote script for Thunderball then sued Fleming and ultimately helped produce Never Say Never Again with Connery).

The cheque looks good to me... and Connery had a tendency to write in capitals an awful lot, though Id love to know the history of it. Id love to hear others' thoughts on this one.

Theres simply not enough to go on for the accounting document. The accountancy firm is real, but I'd steer clear of this one personally.

For me, if I was after another Connery, these arent what I would go for personally, but each to their own. A lot of the credibility of items like these will hang on their provenance, and unless B'bc can provide considerable provenance details I wouldnt be interested. The COA from B'bc that they provide is only as good as a person considers B'bc's reputation to be...
