Hello.  Just wondering what everyone's thought is on this Marilyn signed photo.  I obtained it around 10 years ago in November 2004.  Sorry that the signature is not very bold.

Thank you for looking.  You were able to find out more than I could! :)

Amazing work Pauline on also finding the pic! great info as always and wonderful item Bryan. As much as it could sell for i dont think i would be able to part with such an amazing item esp. if you can get more info on the background. but thats just me. figuring out the history of the item would be fun and it seems like you have some work to do figuring it out. sounds like a good time! have some great help here just from Pauline

No doubt Ricky.  I don't think I can part with this, I've got various autographs in my collection, but this one is my prized piece.... just hoping I can find out some info on it.  Think I'll try to look up the name of the autograph dealer who sold it to me.

good call. that would def be my prize if i had it! finding the history sounds really exciting. maybe once you can get in touch with the dealer everything else will fall into place like where they got it. would be tough after so many years but its def worth trying and finding out! keep me updated on what you find out, im really interested!

I couldn't part with something like that either. I have auto envy :-) I don't own a Marilyn, just a really nice secretarial from 20th Century Fox mid 50s.

I think it will be great fun finding out more too. Ultimately I think it is possible to pinpoint quite a few things about this. I have enjoyed even unravelling some fake latter date signings. Sadly I own one (lol), but I did find out exactly where and when a photo I had was printed and most of the info had been cut away to fit a frame. I believe the previous owner thought it to be genuine. But I found out it was printed in 1973.

You will be able to see if your one was previously framed Bryan? it may be why it has been cut too. The fact that its a little rough how it has been cut makes it more genuine to me. Probably done so in her lifetime when no one quite realized what a legend she would be. Cemented by her dying so young.

I will find out when that pose was shot, at least that will give you the earliest possible date of signing. The kind of finish on the photo is helpful too. I will see if I can find another like it.

OK, I hope I aren't taking all the fun out of it, but I love "busting" pics.

If you look really closely at this higher quality photo of the luncheon one I posted earlier:

I fancy I can see a scrawling across the program - can anyone else see that? Imagination could be in overdrive though. If I could see a higher resolution and it is signed, it would actually really help you because roughly spatially, signings will be similarly executed in the same space/layout/photo.

Also, in your signing there is the rise in the "Marilyn", the lowest point of the M and n nearly always touch down with a rise in the middle usually around the "ly". So many fakes have it written straight across the baseline. Occasionally the baseline was more consistent across, especially on cheques, but the more hurried she was the more the middle rose up briefly.

I looked at the photo of the luncheon closely, but couldn't make out a scrawling on it.  I think I found the person who sold me the photo... at least I think it's him.  Same name and same city it was mailed to me from.  I sent him an email on facebook... hopefully I'll hear back.  Due to the edges not being 100% straight, that was perhaps a thought of mine too, that this might have been framed and matted at one point and cut out.
