Alain Fabien Maurice Marcel Delon (Sceaux, 8 November 1935) is a French actor, director and film producer with Swiss citizenship. He is considered one of the greatest sex symbols in history, as well as one of the greatest French actors like Jean Gabin or Jean-Paul Belmondo, the latter considered his eternal media "rival" in France in the sixties. His «beauty derived from his bewitching appearance, his angelic face and his hypnotizing icy eyes», allowed him to play dark, mysterious, solitary men, who very often even revealed themselves to be autobiographical of their interpreter. Collaborations with directors René Clément, Luchino Visconti and Jean-Pierre Melville were fundamental for the actor's career[5]; among the most famous characters he played are the dark and fearful Rocco in Rocco and his brothers (1960), Prince Tancredi in The Leopard (1963), the killer Jeff in Frank Costello's Angel Face (1967), the gangster Rogert Startet in The Sicilian clan (1969), the substitute Daniele Dominici in The first quiet night (1972); he was also Zorro in Duccio Tessari's 1975 film of the same name, the mysterious Robert Klein in Mr. Klein (1976) and the Baron of Charlus in Swann's Love (1984). In 1985 he won the César Award for best actor for the film Notre histoire; he also won the David di Donatello, the Golden Bear for lifetime achievement at the Berlin Film Festival, while in 1963 he obtained a Golden Globe nomination for the film The Leopard. Since the seventies he has also had experience as a film producer, through his Adel Productions, and as a director as in the thriller For the Skin of a Policeman (1981) and the drama Braccato (1983). His last performance on the big screen dates back to 2008 in the film Asterix at the Olympics, while in 2017 he announced his retirement from the stage
