Coach's Corner-Morales: Real or Forgeries?

This set has every autograph authenticated by forensic document examiner Christopher Morales in a recent Coach's Corner auction.

The price each item sold for is listed in it's name. (We downloaded the images while the sale was still on, so the price in the screen shot will be lower).

What is your opinion on the authenticity of each item? You can click on the photos once they display and a full-screen image is often available.

Please give collectors a day to give their opinions before you give yours—thanks!

Travis it's possible since Eno's lived into 2002 and before becoming very ill made many appearances in and around Busch Stadium. I have a bat that has Carlton Fisk on it with an inscription of the "Pole" when he hit his famous home run at Fenway. A few years ago, I ran into him at a show where he was signing... He had since been elected into the HOF. I had him add a HOF inscription. His original signature is in black sharpie and the HOF in blue sharpie. Since I obtained both in person.. it would take a team of horses to obtain a PSA/DNA certification and the funny part they were at the show where he added the HOF inscription but it is in different ink.

I agree that it does seem wierd to cloud up a Ruth/Gehrig ball but who knows what people think when they add signatures.

Speaking of Coaches Auction....as I persue their offerings I am amazed at the prices and the merchandise. I have always been skeptical of buying from an auction I am not familiar with tis why I stay with places like Tri-Star, Steiner, UpperDeck or better yet in person. This blog was eye openeing; http://frozenpondauction.com/blog/?tag=coachs-corner especially with the relationship to Stat and Sports Collector Digest!

Steve - you will be interested in this.... Joe of PSA called last night and we caught up on some long overdue items... the mere mention of CC seemed to bring a sigh of disgust. What struck me as odd (although I don't know why) is when someone says, "just because it has a PSA ID on it, doesn't it make it from PSA or authentic". Of course, I knew that but it is good for Joe to remind us!

But what I found from 2007 on a thread response to an inquiry from CC http://forum.sportscollectorsdigest.com/tm.aspx?m=127 that doesn't give me much of a confidence in items on this auction is found below... On this site Caveat Emptor is indeed in play and I am sure if you acquire an item and relate where it came from it could prove extremely difficult to gain a reputable authentication. Thus, like Stans Sporting Goods COA - it goes on the D-List. Seems this place has way too much controversy surrounding their auctions;

John, we take any returns for authenticity on un-certified items if they are returnd within 21 days after the auction date.

Regarding PSA and Jimmy Spence, we are personally not supportive of them as authenticators. We find that they continually reject items that are deemed authentic by other more highly qualified authenticators and they seem to always pass items from other auction companies that they work for, but reject similar items from other auction companies that don't hire them to authenticate their auctions(like Coach's Corner!). That being said, you can use them and return the items within the return period if you like if they fail, but it may be a waste of your time(and money) and ours.
Thank you.

My Dear lowly collector and pal in arms Fudd - there is much more to share but one has to consider the source of the information and defender of coach's corner.  I might also advise them or whoever is involved;

Coach's Corner;   Our privacy policy is simple:

  •
    • We only collect the information we need to do business and to provide our customers with the best possible auction experience.
    • We take steps to keep our customer information confidential and secure.
    • We do not sell, rent or otherwise make available our customer information to any other party, except as required by law.

But Greg, it's authenticated by Christopher Morales. How could it be fake? Sheesh...
