Gina Lollobrigida



Gina Lollobrigida, born Luigia Lollobrigida (Subiaco, 4 July 1927), is an Italian actress. Nicknamed Lollo, she was one of the most important European actresses and sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s internationally. She is one of the few Italian actresses to have starred in numerous American films which made her famous throughout the world, making her a diva in Hollywood. During her career she was directed by Italian directors of great artistic depth such as Alberto Lattuada, Vittorio De Sica, Mario Monicelli, Pietro Germi and Mario Soldati. In France you worked with directors of the caliber of René Clair and Christian-Jaque. On the American side, it was directed, among others, by Vincent Sherman, John Huston, Carol Reed, King Vidor, Melvin Frank, Robert Z. Leonard alongside world-famous stars such as Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, Robert Alda, Burt Lancaster, Yul Brynner, Frank Sinatra, Sean Connery, Anthony Quinn, Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, David Niven and more. As her film career slowed down, she also began a second one as a photojournalist, which led her to interview Fidel Castro in the seventies. During her career she has obtained numerous awards, including a Henrietta Award for the film Back to September, seven David di Donatello and two Nastri d'argento, as well as a BAFTA nomination for Bread, Love and Fantasy.
