Jerry Lewis, pseudonym of Joseph Levitch (Newark, March 16, 1926 – Las Vegas, August 20, 2017), was an American comedian, actor, director, screenwriter, film producer and singer, as well as author, producer and television host, and philanthropist. Among the most important and well-known American comedians, he formed a highly successful artistic partnership in television and cinema with Dean Martin, before embarking on a solo career as an actor and director starting in the 1960s.
