Name: Gabriele
Surname: D'Annunzio
Gabriele D'Annunzio, in civil status Gabriele d'Annunzio (Pescara, 12 March 1863 – Gardone Riviera, 1 March 1938), was an Italian writer, poet, playwright, soldier, politician, journalist and patriot, symbol of decadentism and famous figure of the First World War, since 1924 awarded the title of Prince of Montenevoso by King Vittorio Emanuele III. Nicknamed the Vate (in the same way as Giosuè Carducci), that is, "sacred poet, prophet", singer of Umbertine Italy, or even "the Imaginary", he occupied a pre-eminent position in Italian literature from 1889 to around 1910 and in political life from 1914 to 1924. He has been defined as "the exceptional and last interpreter of the most enduring Italian poetic tradition". As a political figure, he left a mark in his era and had a notable influence on the events that followed him. His art was so decisive for mass culture that it influenced habits and customs in the Italy - and beyond - of his time: a period that would later be defined as D'Annunzioism
