Matthew Paige Damon (Cambridge, 8 October 1970) is an American actor, screenwriter and film producer.
Prolific actor and highly sought after for his versatility, Damon, often in supporting roles, has already worked with the main directors of modern cinema (among others, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Gus Van Sant, Robert Redford, the Coen brothers, Steven Soderbergh and Cameron Crowe), casually switching from brilliant comedy (the Ocean's Eleven trilogy) to action films (he played the lead in the Jason Bourne saga), up to the modern western (Geronimo, Il Grinta).
In 1998, together with his friend Ben Affleck, he won the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay and the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and was also nominated in the Best Actor category at the Oscars for Will Hunting - Rebel genius. In 2010 he received his second Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of him in Invictus-The Invincible. He later won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical Film for the film Survivor-The Martian in 2016. For the same film, he receives his fourth nomination for the Oscar for Best Actor.
Damon became known for his versatility, starring in commercially and critically successful films as the repentant secret agent Jason Bourne in the series of The Bourne, of an anti-hero in Mr. Ripley's Talented (1999), of an angel in Dogma (1999), a young soldier in Saving Private Ryan (1998), a Siamese twin in Brothers for the Skin (2003). He has gained further critical acclaim for his performances in such plays as Syriana (2005), The Good Shepherd (2006), The Departed (2006), The Informant! (2009) and Hereafter (2010). In 2016 he was one of the producers of the film Manchester by the Sea, with which he earned an Oscar nomination for best picture.
