Henry Fonda

Henry Jaynes Fonda (Grand Island, May 16, 1905 – Los Angeles, August 12, 1982) was an American actor. Interpreter of characters with strong moral integrity, after his first steps as an actor on Broadway, Fonda made his Hollywood debut in 1935 and for almost five decades he was one of the most popular American actors on the screen. His career took a turning point with the interpretation of the character Tom Joad in the film Fury (1940). He starred in western classics such as Dawn of the Dead (1943), comedies such as Mister Roberts' Crazy Ship (1955) and the intense legal drama The Jury's Voice (1957). In contrast to his typical positive and incorruptible characters, he was able to renew his cinematic image by agreeing to play the part of the ruthless Frank in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). In 1973 he returned to play another role created by Sergio Leone in the atypical western My Name is Nobody. Patriarch of a family of well-known actors, which includes his children Jane Fonda and Peter Fonda and his grandchildren Bridget Fonda and Troy Garity, together with Paul Newman and Laurence Olivier he holds the singular distinction of having received first the Oscar for lifetime achievement and then as an actor (for his performance in On Golden Pond). Nicknamed Hank by colleagues and closest friends, the American Film Institute placed him in sixth place among the greatest stars in the history of cinema
