Joan Crawford
Joan Crawford, pseudonym of Lucille Fay LeSueur (San Antonio, March 23, 1904 – New York, May 10, 1977), was an American actress. Considered one of the most famous stars of Hollywood's golden age, she began her career in the 1920s, during the silent era, but achieved great success especially in the 1930s and 1940s in films such as Grand Hotel (1932), The Dance of Venus (1933) and Women (1939) in which she embodied a new generation of ambitious, autonomous and determined young American women, becoming one of the most popular and highly paid divas of her era. After a period of less success, in the second part of her career she distinguished herself in more dramatic and mature roles, attempting memorable performances in films such as Mildred's Romance (1945), which earned her the Oscar for best leading actress in 1946, Johnny Guitar (1954) and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), in which she shared the screen with Bette Davis, her great cinematic rival of the time. The American Film Institute ranked Crawford tenth among the greatest stars in film history
