Karl Dönitz (Grünau, 16 September 1891 – Aumühle, 24 December 1980) was a German admiral and politician, who was Reichspräsident from 30 April to 23 May 1945, following the suicide of Adolf Hitler.

Großadmiral Dönitz served as commander of the submarine fleet (Befehlshaber der U-Boote) in the German U-boat campaign during World War II. Under his administration, the U-boat fleet fought the Battle of the Atlantic, attempting to "siege" the United Kingdom by blocking naval convoys carrying vital supplies arriving from the United States and other countries.
