Among the most awarded actresses in the history of cinema, she has appeared in more than 100 films and television productions since her debut in 1971. Most nominated actress for the César Award, with 16 nominations and two victories, she won two Prix d'interprétation féminine at the Festival of Cannes for Violette Nozière (1978) and The Pianist (2001), two Coppa Volpi at the Venice Film Festival for An Affair of Women (1988) and Darkness in the Mind (1995) and a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for 8 Women and a Mystery (2002).
Among her youthful recognitions, the BAFTA Award for Best Debut Actress for The Lacemaker (1977) stands out, while in 2005 she was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. In 2016 she won acclaim for her performances in Elle and Things to Come; for Elle, Huppert won the Golden Globe in the best actress in a drama section and received her first nomination for the Academy Award for best actress.
