Terry Gilliam, born Terrence Vance Gilliam (Minneapolis, November 22, 1940), is an American, naturalized British director, screenwriter, comedian, animator, writer, film producer and set designer (he renounced his US citizenship in January 2006). The only American member of Monty Python and the main author-animator of the surreal and bizarre cartoons that interspersed the famous show Monty Python's Flying Circus, Terry Gilliam later became a film director.
