Name: Rudol'f

Surname: Nureev

Rudol'f Chametovič Nureev (in Russian Рудо́льф Хаме́тович Нуре́ев?; in Tatar: Rudolf Xämätulı Nuriev; Irkutsk, 17 March 1938 – Paris, 6 January 1993) was a dancer no and Austrian naturalized Soviet choreographer, defined by critics such as Clement Crisp and Sylvie de Naussac one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century together with Nižinsky and Baryšnikov. Due to his speed and propensity for aerobatics he was nicknamed "the flying Tartar". His activity as a dancer and choreographer was not only important for his technical ability but proved to be innovative, increasing the importance of male roles which, starting from his productions, were developed with greater consideration for choreography than in the past. Nureev was an absolute precursor of the new approach that broke down the boundary between classical ballet and modern dance and which was destined to become the norm in subsequent years.
