Shirley Jane Temple, or, when married, Shirley Temple Black (Santa Monica, April 23, 1928 – Woodside, February 10, 2014), was an American actress, singer, dancer and diplomat. A famous child prodigy of cinema, nicknamed "Goldilocks", on the screen she played the characters of sweet and cute little girls, but at the same time gifted with an acumen and wisdom impressive for their age. As an adult she devoted herself to a career as an ambassador, using the married name Shirley Temple Black. The American Film Institute ranked Temple eighteenth among the greatest stars in movie history.
