In around 1967, Marlon Brando waved down a Manhattan cab driver, Matty, who couldn't believe his favorite actor was going to be his fare. Knowing that every other driver would talk the entire trip, he just said hello to Brando, asked where to take him and kept quiet.

When they reached their destination, Brando asked how much. Matty said, no charge. He wanted to thank him for all the great movies and roles he was in.

Brando asked Matty for a paper and something to write with. Brando wrote:

"For Matty
With the greatest appreciato for your kind gesture
Best wishes always,
Marlon Brando"

Matty framed it and kept in his apartment until about 10 years ago, when he called me up to see about selling it. I asked what he wanted, he said he did some research and told me what he thought it was worth...which was pretty accurate. I loved it. I bought it. Typical me, though, it's been sitting in an envelope in my office ever since.

I'm going to list it on eBay for $1,900. I quoted less than that to a site member who was interested. Signed Brando notes are rare and this one's attractive and has a lot of character. It's 6x4 inches, BTW.

Thanks, Richard! I love it. I don't think I'll ever get around to displaying it, though.

Sell it and then you could put the money towards a Prince autograph. Good deal.

Yeah, I'm gonna rush right out and do that, Paul.
