What's going on with some autograph "stores" and sellers on eBay?

I'm often browsing on eBay and looking around for classic Hollywood autographed material.  Signed photos, album pages, ephemera...I really enjoy "window shopping" as a pastime (and learning more…Continue

This signed Paul Newman was once a part of my collection at one point.  As you can see, it had a third party authentication sticker adhered to it when a previous owner had used that particular…Continue

"I'm a fan of stickers on the front, but of course, it depends on the location as well. I don't think there is a right or wrong on whether to place it on the front, back or LOA. You don't like it in the front of the item? that's…"

Etienne replied to KaiMi's discussion Ingrid Bergman - real or fake?
"I'm going to call it fake. It is on one of those generic cards which, as we have discussed, offer no context whatsoever (eg. unlike a photo, contract, album page etc.).  To me the flow of the letters just look to "soft". …"

How do you ultimately decide on authenticity with your collection?

Posted on June 5, 2021 at 3:48pm 7 Comments

Greetings!

I don't know if this has been covered explicitly as a blog topic...but  I thought I would roll it out and seek some thoughts and opinions.

What does it ultimately take for you to be comfortable with a particular autograph if you encounter divergent opinions on it?

I've been thinking on this a bit for some time. Quite awhile ago, I purchased a signed item from a person who had had it in their possession for about 20…

Typed Letter Signed (TLS) - Any Collectors?

Posted on April 10, 2021 at 5:17pm 3 Comments

I've recently become more and more attracted to letters from persons that I have an autographic interest in. I now have an Alfred Hitchcock typed letter from 1940 in which he discusses his budding American film career with an assistant director. It's simply signed "Hitch" in black fountain pen ink.

Some may not be interested in something like a TLS since there is not much "ink" on the page but I am fascinated by the content. I also have my eye on a TLS from John Ford from the same…

Alfred Hitchcock Self Profile Sketches

Posted on February 19, 2021 at 12:30pm 5 Comments

We were discussing on the IS THIS AUTOGRAPH REAL section an exemplar of a self caricature profile sketch and signature attributed to Alfred Hitchcock. TPAs Beckett and PSA gave a thumbs down to it on their quick opinion signature reviews while JSA had issued a full LOA for it earlier.

As I have looked around online, it seems there have been tons of these sketches that claim to be from Hitchcock's hand that have been bought and sold over the years. Examples of past sales from various…
