Asking here how this "HARVEY" sketch from James Stewart looks. It's on a vintage artist board approx.  "11 x 16".  Found amongst some other signed entertainment pieces from the 70's.To my eye, it…Continue

I recently came across a listing for this record album signed by Groucho. The album itself is from 1972 and is a recording of his performance at Carnegie Hall. According to some accounts, Groucho was…Continue

MLB player Pete Runnels?

I'm breaking up an autograph album with a friend and most signatures date from the early 1970's. There are some baseball autographs intermingled with various minor T.V. celebrities of the period. …Continue

"That's good advice about focusing on the signature, JK.  I'm aware there are collectors who stay away from Stewart/Harvey pieces as there has been a lot of forgery."

"Does not look like money that I got from him but mine was a couple decades later. Mine has whiskers in a thinner pen.  Not sure I like the shakiness in the face. But I'd focus on the signature. If its good the sketch is good, if it's…"

James Stewart - Harvey Sketch - Opinions Please

Asking here how this "HARVEY" sketch from James Stewart looks. It's on a vintage artist board approx.  "11 x 16".  Found amongst some other signed entertainment pieces from the 70's.To my eye, it seems to have a natural (if somewhat infirm) flow like an older person would write with. It's not a  "cookie cutter" type piece like so many that have been on the market. Thanks for any opinions you may care to offer! …See More

"Possibly.  The "coc" in the surname looks kind of odd but then the "k" looks good. Otherwise, it overall looks pretty good to me.  Any backstory on it?  Maybe he was distracted as he was finishing it up? "

Typed Letter Signed (TLS) - Any Collectors?

I've recently become more and more attracted to letters from persons that I have an autographic interest in. I now have an Alfred Hitchcock typed letter from 1940 in which he discusses his budding American film career with an assistant director. It's simply signed "Hitch" in black fountain pen ink. Some may not be interested in something like a TLS since there is not much "ink" on the page but I am fascinated by the content. I also have my eye on a TLS from John Ford from the same era in which…See More

"Having seen these photos popping up quite a bit over the years, I do have to say that it has stuck in my mind that the forger of these has had an ability to make the signatures look old.  "

"I'm afraid it does not look authentic to me either.  There doesn't seem to be a natural flow and it looks like someone was drawing from sight (not even a trace job)."

Alfred Hitchcock Self Profile Sketches

Posted on February 19, 2021 at 12:30pm 5 Comments

We were discussing on the IS THIS AUTOGRAPH REAL section an exemplar of a self caricature profile sketch and signature attributed to Alfred Hitchcock. TPAs Beckett and PSA gave a thumbs down to it on their quick opinion signature reviews while JSA had issued a full LOA for it earlier.

As I have looked around online, it seems there have been tons of these sketches that claim to be from Hitchcock's hand that have been bought and sold over the years. Examples of past sales from various…
