Nirvana on their Australian tour.

Today Nirvana's album Nevermind has sold more than 30 million copies and is also one of the top 3 albums streamed on the internet. Back in September of 1991, Nevermind was released and by December 91 it had already sold a million copies in the states, January and Februaury 1992, Nirvana went on tour in Australia and New zealand, while Nevermind exploded in the states!

Cobain wanted to name the album Sheep, because it was a joke about the people who would buy Nevermind. We all know Nevermind ,hit number one on the billboard 200 on January 11, knocking Michael Jackson's dangerous from the top of the charts, Nirvana stepped off the plane less than two weeks later in Australia.

By the time Nirvana were in Australia, they had to play a number of upgraded venues because of the impact their album Nevermind and Mtv.

One of the venues that were upgraded from the Old lion, to The Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide. Nirvana played the Thebby on January 30th where a number of items were signed before sound check in the morning, mostly just radio promo posters.

The gig was great depending who you ask, the theatre was packed, but from one personal account , Kurt was sober and straight , later in the day he decided he needed some medicine and the show was delayed for over an hour, until his fix arrived. The show wasn't fantastic and he barley said anything or moved. After the show Kurt was under the weather and in no state to engage with anyone, So the following morning at the Hotel,Nirvana were staying there were a number of items signed including some Hormoaning tour ep's and my Nevermind cd. They were all worse for wear but signed and politely refused photo's.

By the time Nirvana played The big day out in Sydney , my friend said the place was jammed packed and the security were using fire hoses on the crowds to keep them cool, he wasn's impressed that Kurt was slouched over his guitar most of the gig, but they still rocked.

So to cut it short Nirvana's Nevermind is a groundbreaking album and you dont need me to tell you that. Im just going to show some Australia signed Nirvana items that i own and a couple of others.

I think I told you I found the tour poster for the Auckland show online in an article that had the young lady's name who owned it. I contacted her through Facebook, asking her if I can buy it.

She says "Yes, but it won't be cheap." HAHA.

The setlist was written on the back of the tour itinerary from prior shows. You can see the Violent Femmes there as well.

The funny thing is about that tour is that they were "down under" when Nevermind hit #1...and they couldn't do any publicity here in the States.

It's the Sgt. Pepper's of our generation, and for me, it's the best album of all time.
