Hey, it's that time of year again for the Celebrity Championship Golf Tournament hosted by Drew Brees. It's going on now Friday, May 18 thru Sunday, May 20 (3 days!) at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Tickets are $15 each or free admission with your Ralph's Rewards Card. The address is 2100 Costa Del Mar Road, Carlsbad, CA 92009. Call 760-438-9111 or go to celebritychampionship.com for more information. Golfers tee off at 7 am and sign free autographs on event postcards at about noon. No memorabilia is allowed on the course. Be there early as the parking will fill up early! Hope to see you all there!
Michael, isn't that a debate for another time and place? Now, that being said...you sound idiotic. What does Drew Brees have to do with that? He's doing a CHARITY fundraiser, and he's a QB. THEY ARE THE ONES the bounty is on!!!! The Saints were severly punished for the bounties, wouldn't you agree? And, anybody that is stupid enough to think boxing and football aren't already sports where you try to hurt the opponent (legally), is an idiot that just shouldn't watch the sport. It's easy enough to turn the TV off, not to buy their product, and just be done with it...if your delicate sensibilities are offended.
Guys, since I posted the blog message, I feel I should make some comments. First of all, while I was there, I did not see Drew Brees; I was at the autograph tent up the hill waiting for golfers to sign the event postcards for me and the other waiting fans. I didn't even see Brees tee off either so I am assuming nobody asked him about the bounty. All I could hear was the crowd cheering as the more famous celebrity golfers teed off from the bottom of the hill. You have to remember, the fans are just fans, and they are not the media asking alot of negative questions that would piss off Brees. Secondly, this is a charity event! It's all for a good cause! Drew doesn't keep the money or use the money on bounties! The players in the NFL (and other sports) make so much money that there is no need for bounties! And the Saints coaches and players that were involved have already been punished to the point that they probably won't make it this year to the Super Bowl or even the playoffs! Therefore, there is no need to get on Drew's back for the bounties! Whether Drew knew about the bounties or not is not a issue. I am honestly assuming that he didn't know about the bounties at all! Thirdly, guys, while I agree with your comments Josh, there is no need for name calling or insults. We all adults here. While Michael is wrong about asking about the wrong question about a charity event, he is entitled to his opinion. Michael, while we all agree the bounties are a bad thing, we all have to understand that violence exists in many sports and many injuries cannot be avoided. Fights and getting hit with equipment (bats, balls, pucks, sticks, etc.) also cannot be avoided (my uncle once got hit by trying to catch a flying puck at a San Diego Gulls game. But what a way to embarass yourself in front of your date and everybody that was there!) In other words, if you can take the heat, stay home or change the channel. Entertain yourself some other way. As for trying to prove that players are trying to end opposing team players' careers, good luck with that! Even without bounties, many players' careers have ended early simply because of injuries. Lastly, the Drew Brees Celebrity Championship Golf Tournament is a happy, postive, and fun event for all the folks who attended. It's mostly all smiles at the event so if you anything negative to say about the event itself or celebrity golfers attending, you are better off staying home! Next time I'll post my experience at the event and post a new photo album soon!
