Buyers Beware of The Mick/Don Mattingly "Signed" Photo

I get sick of seeing eBay sellers post this as being "signed" when in reality it is a reprint. I myself actually got burned on this in the past.

Here is the "signed" photo to be cautious of:

As you can see below, this is the exact same "reproduction" as above, yet this seller calls it an "Autograph"

Don't ask me why, but eBay sellers constantly list this as being a legit "signed"/"autographed" photo. It is a fairly rare photo, and yes authentic ones do exist, but this "reprint" pops up far more often.

Here's another example of a moron seller thinking this is authentic hand signed, when it is the same reprint as above:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mickey-Mantle-Don-Mattingly-Signed-Framed-P...

As you can see, the "signatures" above are all the exact same.  Same spot. Same angle. Same Location. (Duh, they're reprints of ONE legit autographed photo.)

Here is an authentic:
Another authentic that is missing Mattingly's sig:

Just a heads up if you ever come across this piece!

Judging by his spelling errors (can't even spell Mantle correctly), I'd say he's not the brightest seller on eBay, which would explain why he can't tell it's a reprint...

Here is another infamous Mattingly/Mantle "signed" photo (that is actually a reprint). This is being sold by eBay seller macus34

Not sure why no one can tell these aren't actually signed!

Yet another eBay seller who thinks this is really signed, this is listed by eBay seller msk340 with a BIN of $300 for a reprint. YIKES:

Its hard to tell if this is a "reprint" if you have only seen one (the one your looking at) if your not looking at it in person.  The Mattingly looks like it could be a printed sig but Mantle looks the same blue marker thats on all of his prints.

Thats a tough one, Im glad you pointed that out because I would not have know just by looking at the photo of the photo

This is another reason why I stay away from flats altogether.  Copying machines are too good at what they do nowadays.

These are easy to spot because I've seen so many and it's the same one 99% of the time. Same grey mattingly sig in same spot, same blue Mantle with a smear by the "t". I've been burned on this one before which is why I can spot them and point them out.

Once you receive one in hand it's easy to tell the sig is "apart" of the photo. Real sigs are easy to spot by the "light" trick. I'm sure some people by this for hundreds, receive it, and never have a clue it's a reprint, but anyone with autograph knowledge would be able to tell. But yes, from a photo that "metallic shine" is rarely capable of being seen which is a risk you take when buying a flat from an image online.
