The older I become, the better I get to acquiring signed golf balls for my unique collection. I had a field day getting PGA Champions Tour players to sign golf balls for me at the recent year-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship held at the TPC Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco. Tom Lehman held on to win the cup and the $1 million annuity. Tom signed a ball for me at the 1998 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. I was surprised to bump into golf instructor Hank Haney at the event. I wasn't expecting him to be there. He graciously signed a ball for me. I now have signed balls by the top three golf teachers (as ranked by their peers) on display in my golf room at home. They are ranked in this order: Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, and David Leadbetter. Boy, would I love to have a lesson or two from either of the these three great instructors. I have signed balls from two other golfers who I would die for to have a golf lesson -- Johnny Miller and Ken Venturi. My problem is I can't afford their fees. My signed golf ball collection is up to 316 and counting by the week. When I got my first signed ball by golf legend Arnold Palmer on October 25, 1989, never did I expect to take to collecting autographed balls like a proverbial fish to water. The devil got loose inside me, and I went crazy going after autographs on golf balls from that day forward. I will go on record to say that I believe that I have the most diversified autographed golf ball collection in America. I have over 90 signed golf balls by hall of famers from 10 different sports. My love for the wonderful game of golf combined with my hobby of collecting signed golf balls has created my hobby memoir, Hooked on Autographs by Joe Galiardi. In my book I share my trials and triumphs of collecting autographed golf balls over the past two decades from celebrities from all walks of life, including signed balls by seven U.S. Presidents starting with Richard Nixon. I'm so proud to say that the proceeds from my book are being donated to our returning wounded soldiers being treated at Walter Reed National Military Center, Bethesda, Maryland. My book is available on Amazon.com or you can purchase Hooked on Autographs directly from me by e-mailing me at joe@hookedonautographs.com. Including shipping, the price of my original and entertaining book is $16.41. I personalize all books sold through me. Hooked on Autographs makes for a perfect gift for birthdays, holidays (especially Christmas), tournament giveaways and other special occasions. Golfers and even non-golfers will enjoy this one-of-a-kind book created out of the love of golf. Hope to hear from you. Joe Galiardi, author and speaker.
