I heard that a Pablo Picasso sold for $106 million. Wow. It's such a shame that so many artists die poor, and their paintings make millions after they die. Not that Picasso was one of those artists that was poor, but still.
The expensive item that caught my eye, was when someone that lives near me put some golf clubs of Tiger Woods on eBay, for a minimum bid of $250,000. My first thought was -- yeah, good luck with that.
The irons and wedges were used (according to this guy, a former employee of Titleist) ti win his "Tiger Slam" during the 2000-01 PGA seasons, which included wins at the U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship, along with a Masters.
Of course, the guy had a "certificate of authenticity," which surely means the clubs are legit (that was sarcasm).
Well, the auction ran into a little snag when eBay pulled the items, since Tiger Woods said they weren't his. Woods said "He may have my set of irons, but they're not from those tournaments. They're in my garage."
This guy claims he did work for Tiger on the tour and that Tire said he could keep the clubs.
He has signed items from Tiger, including various flags from the tournaments. And he's currently unemployeed. I'm guessing the perfect time to make a quarter of a million bucks on this item.
The dude is really going to have a hard time proving these belonged to Tiger, but I have a bigger question. Two different guitarists have told me in interviews (both which ran in Autograph Magazine)...those guitarists being Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and surf guitar god Dick Dale...that they have seen guitars on eBay that people said belonged to them, and they were lying. These guys had contacted eBay, and eBay didn't care and did nothing about it.
I wonder why Tiger is able to make a statement, or have his people call eBay, and the items get pulled. Very strange.
