Hi there,

My name is Steve i live in Manchester UK. I'm new to the site and was wandering if there was anyone who could help me identify an autographed baseball mitt i have. If you take a look at the photo i would be really grateful.I've checked golden glove winners for 1999 but had no joy. If anyone can help me out that would be fantastic.

thanks Steve.baseball%20007.jpg

It does not look familiar to me. This may be a tough one.

Thanks for you comment Chad. I'm trying to find out for my son i'm a football man but he loves baseball and i picked this up at a carboot sale recently, we only noticed the autograph when we got home and had a proper look at it. I've been trying to work it out and i've even been in contact with a few dealers in the states but no joy. Any info or guesses would be welcome just something to set me off in the right direction.

Steve, I don't have a particularly comprehensive knowledge of Major League Baseball autographs, so I can't really say for sure what this is. But my first instinct from looking at it is that this isn't the autograph of a MLB player. I'm somewhat tempted to believe that this might be a little league or high school player marking his glove to identify it as his. Even if it's a pro, it could be a career minor league player, which, in general, really wouldn't have any value. Just something to consider.

Rich, thanks for your comment. As you say i'm starting to think along similar lines as i've searched and searched to try to find out who's autograph this is and from the responses i've had from serious collectors they don't know either. I will keep plugging away at this one for the time being , but thankyou for your time and help.

I'm going to take a stab at this.  What does anyone think about this possibly being Hideki Irabu?  The beginning has a vague resemblance to his 'last name only' signature.  And not to be flippant about it, Irabu did have a serious alcohol problem, so this could be a rambling 'under the influence' signature.  That said, the '1999' inscription is rather clear, which could very well throw my theory under the bus.  Here's a photo.
