Here's what Ewan McGregor thinks of Autograph hunters. Just thought I should share this if anyone was thinking of approaching him, I'd think twice!
From the article:
Ewan McGregor has branded autograph hunters "parasitical lowlifes".
The 43-year-old actor - who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in 'Star Wars Episode I-III' - insists he rarely meets real fans, just people who want to make money from his signature.
Asked how 'Star Wars' fans have responded to him, he told Details magazine: "I don't have any experience with them. I've never been to one of the conventions.
"The people I meet are the f***ers who want me to sign 'Star Wars' photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their f***ing picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"They're not fans -- they're parasitical lowlifes and f***ing w****rs."
go to LA and NY it's really bad. As soon as a celeb pops up it's a see of homeless low lifes and drug addicts hired by a few individuals to get autographs with a sea of blank photo paper. Ewan came to my city for a film fest thing and he was a dick, but he signed for a couple people asking. We were just waiting outside the TV studio after his interview and we very respectful and he signed but was a d***** about it. Ewan has never been what you'd call nice about autographs so he wouldn't take the time to properly evaluate a person asking for his autograph anyway but he has a point. BTW, I asked him to sign my Big Fish DVD and Blue-Ray covers, not Star Wars crap. Those newer ones were terrible.
I am an in-person collector in NYC and recently had an experience with Ewan. Mind you, I do not collect to make a profit but will at times sell or trade duplicates. I only collect on people I am a fan of, and I'm never pushy about getting an autograph. That being said, Trainspotting is one of my favorite movies. My wife and I spent a few hours waiting outside of the theater (Ewan is on Broadway right now) to see if we could get him to sign two Trainspotting posters. As Ewan came out the side door, and there were no other fans around, I asked him if he could sign. He replied "I don't sign big posters anymore" and he just kept walking. I said thank you anyway, and we figured we would just leave empty handed. A few minutes later we spot Cynthia Nixon from Sex in the City heading our way towards the theater. We didn't have anything for her to sign, but my wife made small talk with her about a few things they have in common like Education Activism and Cynthia was extremely nice about it. She asked us if we were seeing the play that day and we replied no. She told us they sell cheap tickets right before curtain call. We decided what the hell, we are already there. Afterwards we go to the stage door, playbills in hand, and our two Trainspotting posters that we folded ourselves (that sucked, but we knew we would have a better chance with Ewan). Ewan came out first, smiled, posed for pictures, and signed everything for the audience members. When he got to us we simply complimented him on his performance. I could tell heh recognized us, but he signed our playbills and the posters without batting an eye, then posed for a picture with my wife, So what if we had to pay to watch the show for him to sign the posters? The show was great and the tickets were cheap, and I now have an awesome Trainspotting poster hanging in my man cave. Even better, I didn't feel like scum getting them signed, didn't chase him all over the city, and I didn't have to be shoved up against a barricade with low-life pushy graphers with their huge binders of 8x10s and 11x14s. I don't know about you all, but I want the autograph hobby to keep going, and it surely won't if graphers drive every celebrity away from signing autographs.
