Warnings in the NASCAR hobby. Now is the time to....

BEWARE!!! It seems that many "collectors" are dumping collections of old die-cast cars, trading cards, and driver postcards / photos & Magazines at this time. What appears to be a growing trend is that some of these sellers are forging signatures ( or they bought the items already signed wit ha forgery and didn't know ) onto these older items in hopes of drawing interest.

DON'T be fooled by these older ( vintage ) NASCAR collectibles that are signed. Understanding the evolution of a NASCAR Driver's signature is a VERY specific skill.

For those of you that are new to the hobby...PLEASE realize that many drivers don't sign the same type of autograph that they did years ago. for example, Dale Earnhardt Jr used to sign his FULL name on every item. Around the year 1999, he changed over to signing Dale Jr. full time, around 2003, it changed again and so on.

A Jeff Gordon NASCAR Autograph from 1991-1995 has a much different look to the signature than it does now. Even as late as this year, Jeff's signature pattern is changing. He has MANY signature patterns that flow from his pen. This takes a well trained eye and knowledge of these variations to determine authenticity.

At this time I am working on a database of signature comparasons for this site. Until then, please realize that there are many older items on the market at this time that contain a forgeries. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

PLEASE feel free to contact me at anytime to show me any item(s) you are looking to buy. I will gladly give you a FREE review and help you decide if the item(s) are legit. If they are not legit, I will make sure the seller is made aware and that the item(s) are removed from the market.

Don't be scared away from buying older NASCAR autographed items. Remember, NASCAR has ALWAYS been the #1 autograph friendly sport. There are MILLIONS of authentic items floating around out there. With the right eye, you may just find some VERY special signed vintage items. As the Hall of Fame becomes a reality, the search for vintage signed items will become more popular. This is the best time to collect autographs from every NASCAR legend~~

I look forward to helping all of you!

Thanks for your help Harry. Does anyone have an idea what an item like that is worth?

I'm getting ready to do the list. The price should be in the $1200+ range. Metal is really funny. If the auction is big, it could go for much, much more

O.K.  Here is the list

Jeff Gordon

Jimmie Johnson

Tony Stewart

Kasey Kahne

Kenny Francis ( Kahne's Crew Chief )

Richard Petty

Robbie Loomis

Patrick Carpentier

Brad Daugherty

Casey Mears

Steve Letarte ( Dale Earnhardt Jr's Crew Chief )

J.J. Yeley

Boris Said

Dale Jarrett

Reed Sorenson

Tony Eury Jr. ( Danica Patrick's Crew Chief )

Aric Almirolla

David Gilliland

Juan Pablo Montoya

Travis Kvapil

Bobby Labonte

Kurt Busch

Jon Wood

I would market this as having the autographs of 7 Sprint Cup Champions along with the others.

depending on how well known the auction is, ths should be in the $1,200 - $3,000.  If it is a smaller auction, the price could be lower or higher...you really never know. Sheet Metal is very odd. Not everyone likes or wants it, no matter how many people signed it.

The only downside that I see is that it is missing key signatures of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and other Hall Of Fame Legends.  That's not something that would keep an interested person from buying it though.

Keep us posted to how it does.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Brandon,

How does this look. His event is on July 22, I just want to get this small stuff out of the way.

You are bidding on a one of a kind collection of Nascar Autographs on a ¼ replica hood featuring Kyle Petty’s Victory Junction Camp charity logo. Highlighting this piece are the autographs from the past 15 Sprint Cup Champions (1997 until 2011)!

This item has 8 different Sprint Cup Champions Autographs!

Richard Petty – 2010 Hall of Fame, 8 time Cup Champion (1964,’67,’71,’72,’74,’75,’79)
Jimmie Johnson – 5 time Cup Champion (2006-2010)
Jeff Gordon – 4 time Cup Champion (1995,’97,’98,’01)
Tony Stewart – 3 time Cup Champion (2002,’05,’11)
Kurt Busch – 2004 Cup Champion
Matt Kenseth – 2003 Cup Champion
Bobby Labonte – 2000 Cup Champion
Dale Jarrett – 1999 Cup Champion

Other signatures: Aric Almirolla, Patrick Carpentier, Brad Daugherty (TNT and NBA Star), Tony Eury, Jr. (Danica Patrick's Crew Chief), Kenny Francis (Kasey Kahne's Crew Chief), David Gilliland, Travis Kvapil, Steve Letarte (Dale Earnhardt, Jr's Crew Chief), Robbie Loomis, Casey Mears, Juan Pablo Montoya, Boris Said, Reed Sorenson, J.J. Yeley, and Jon Wood.

Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I left Kenseth off my list.  Make that 8 Sprint Cup champions.  Sadly, Foyt isn't on this item :(

Metal can be VERY pricey..depending on the car, race, driver, etc.  I have seen simple pieces of signed metal sell for thousands and much nicer pieces almost given away.  It really depends on the type of collector(s) that are on-hand for the auction.

It looks good....However, I forgot to ask, is this a Metal replica or the plastic version? If it is plastic, scratch my estimate....a plastic hood would be in the $300-$500 range

It is metal replica.

ok,  It may surprise us then....these small auctions can really bring crazy prices for multi-signed items. GOOD LUCK!!
