As autograph collectors, most of us remember our first purchase.  If we do not, we remember the first purchase of our favorite person’s autograph.  At the time of that purchase, we probably did not expect to add additional autographs of that same person to our collection.  Why would we?  The purchase of a single autograph was an accomplished mission.

In most hobbies, the question of what people collect is often asked.  The question asked of autograph collectors is often more confusing.  Who do you collect?

It does not take long since the original purchase of our favorite person’s autograph to discover the fact that autographs go through many changes over the years.  A vintage George Lucas autograph looks nothing like his more recent signature.  This discovery causes many of us to add to our collections in ways that we never would have imagined at the beginning of our collecting days.

My vintage George Lucas autograph (top) and my more recently signed George Lucas autograph (bottom).  The more recent autograph was signed in 2012.  I could never have imagined owning more than one George Lucas autograph at the time of my original purchase.

I am curious to know who other members of Autograph Live collect.  When I recently tallied pieces of my collection, I realized that there was a tie between two of my favorite people.  They are Don Mattingly and Al Pacino.  Who do you collect?

my first autographs i did get in person from football players in the Netherlands but lost interest and later i did collect movie stars by mail and was disappointed that most of them where secretarials. i always tryed to collect the whole main cast of movies i liked but failed with 2 or 3 and did go further with a other movie. the best result i did have with the cast of ''pirates of the caribbean'' they where really great with personal letters and signed photo's but missed one ''johnny depp''. now mine main interest are ''robert de niro''-''al pacino'' and ''back to the future'' and mine collection is very large. i did expend the hobby with framing mine heroes in cardboard and see them every day hanging on the wall.my latest is on it's way from the usa and that's a scarface signed photo with - al pacino - miriam colon - and mary elizabeth mastrantonio ''psa'' authenticated - i have already make a large plaque to frame it together with the photo and now i'am looking for a frame that makes it all complete.

That is a great idea, to collect the actors of the main cast of a film.  I never considered that, although I do collect Star Wars autographs.  The closest that I have come to working on something similar is my collection of 1977-1978 New York Yankees autographs.  Those were my favorite teams.

I should have expanded on my Jack Nicklaus answer. I collect him because he is the greatest of all time in golf and that is the area I collect the most. I've gotten him in person quite a few times on photos, pin flags, golf balls, even a 5 Pound Scottish Note that he was on. I think I have about 25 things signed by him, maybe a little more, but I've lost count. I don't think anyone signs as much as he does. Certainly no bigger name signs as much as he does.

My first big purchase was, The Beatles part set , eventually I sold that and made a huge profit on the investment.  I enjoy collecting older rock acts, Bob marley or Ac/ dc ( bon scott) .

I think that you may mean Return of the Jedi, Paul.
