I have been a comic book collector and fan since the early 1980's. I even ran a number of comic shops in the 80's and early 90's.  I have attended numerous conventions and I have obtained autographs and sketches by many of the creators. So I guess I do fall into the "collect signed comics" group.

Where do you fall on the "To Signature Series or not to Signature Series" debate?

I can only assume you are talking about the CGC and grading companies trying to tell me that if my books aren't witnessed by one of their approved graders, that my signed comics don't count.

I do not own a slabbed comic, and I don't see a point in my future when I will.

With the stand by these monkeys, that if they did not witness the signing, it doesn't count, that means that the King of Comics who died 21 years ago, never signed a comic. 

I have actually seen signature series slabs which have authenticated Stan Lee's signature on a book already signed by Jack ....and the label completely ignored the fact that Jack Kirby signed the book.  Then their are the labels that treat a signature from Jack like the book has been written on, not autographed.

I guess I fall into the "please don't insult my intelligence" side.  I'd rather spend my money on more books & autographs, not plastic coffins with some idiot's opinion stickered on them.

I still consider Kirby as the only true Fantastic Four artist and John Romita Sr for Spidey. Though I love Ditkos spidey as well and always hoped he would come back for another run.

Romita Sr was a great artist for my fav Daredevil

i am again reviving an old post but l wanted to asd my 2c 

this was back in the earlier 90 where there was no ebay and lot less pressure...these were the days of quick head shots and a hand shake was its price. Taking photos of your favs were encouraged but again that has dried up.There are a lot that charge now for their Hancock and pay for a photo
in the upper left of this is the 'scribble' of Frank Miller...he now charges 100 a pop

lee before he passed was also 100...the hobby has gotten so expensive

It's not quite that simple. The landscape has changed, sure, but not to that extent.

Over the past few years, I've gotten free sketches from a number of artists--several of whom did currently popular books. You just have to know who to ask, when to ask, and what to ask for. There was one artist a couple of years ago who charged about $50 for a sketch. For me, he knocked it down to $20, then he waived the $20 sketch fee with the purchase of a $20 print.

Frank Miller? Like I said, who to ask. Frank is repped at cons by an agent who has a reputation for nickel-and-diming. But, if it weren't for that agent, he wouldn't be signing/appearing at all. Frank went years without signing a comic book. People were paying for more than $100 for the ones that were out there. He wouldn't charge you to sign, sure, but he wouldn't sign them at all. So it's a mixed bag.

I've heard Pete's opinion on this...I really hate that he has to be so ambiguous regarding his stance on slabbed items lol! With that said, here is my latest coffin :)
