PSS - Part of the value of that Gleason is where it was signed, not just when - Jackie's favorite hangout. But the condition and eye appeal are weak and it is not worth $400. Look long enough and you might find one at $100 or so but it will not be certified and you have to be careful as he is largely forged. Most of his autographs from the period are on slips of paper, album pages and playbills. Signing instrument about 50/50 pencil or fountain. By 1950 he was using ballpoint and fountain.
Thanks for the friend invite. This link to my Gleason work might be of interest - it comes in at 33 pages with lots of exemplars and detailed information as well as images of Gleason's I have helped folks here get over the years.
Looking backward, there were a few authentic signatures - the last 1946 I saw was in pencil on a page with other celebs of the day and was around $125, others a bit more but nothing like $1000.
I just looked over eBay - apart from those few contracts and the signature you posted there is not a single authentic Gleason up now on eBay. Patience pays.
$1000 might get you a signed photo from the late 40's. He is terribly rare, but not $1000 unless a vintage signed photo etc. Signatures can be found as well and nowhere near that much. Much depends on the peice. I just sold a unique signed portrait, color 16x20 from 1962, and it was nowhere near $1000. Something signed as Ralph would be different but I have seen only 1 authentic cast photo in all my days.
Here is my Ralph/Gleason - signed March 1st, 1953 US postcard and a superb candid from his own collection. Authentic signed photos from any period are almost unheard of.
Looking again, at $200, this would be great. Early peice, dated...'46 is very early for Gleason, but I don't think they will accept - but worth a try. Even $250. He signed practically nothing.

LOL! Not for admiration reasons. I have a bunch of former presidents (and The Donald) but not his. I don’t agree with his politics but he was the first non-white US President... Which is kind of a big deal.

Most welcome :)
Secretarial.
The PSA Gleason is good but very overpriced. For that money you could just about buy a signed photo. I know nothing of Fred Gwynne's signature.
Horrible forgery. I have many scans of these with that photo and other accompanying junk.

PS - No on the Gwynne - sorry.

Yes, but condition is a bit rippled. More than accurately priced. I'd wait for a better peice.
