I only buy autographs on eBay when they're authenticated by PSA/DNA, Beckett, or JSA.

And if it's not authenticated by anyone and you want to buy it... PSA has a Quick Opinion Service that they'll give within 24 hours: https://www.psacard.com/quickopinion

I have bought an eBay item, then told the seller that I'll pay once the item had been given a Quick Opinion from PSA. The cost is $10, and they'll credit you for full authentication if it's real.

The great thing about Quick Opinion is that IF it's fake, eBay will quickly take the item down so nobody will get burned.

But a Quick Opinion or Signature Review is essentially meaningless. It rules out the obvious. A QO determination is not an authentication and the results can change with a full exam. Buying or selling on the strength of a QO from anyone is not a good idea. Knowing more than the services about your subject will provide true protection. Knowledge is key.

Even with papers, you can easily go wrong. Here is an example from JSA of an obviously forged Jackie Gleason certified just last year. Knowledge of the subject...

True, but it would have 100% ruled this Michael Jackson a fake.

I have never had one that was ruled 'Likely Genuine' come back as fake after a full exam.

If PSA isn't 100% certain, they'll rule something 'likely not genuine.'

Nothing is perfect, but Quick Opinion is a cheap alternative.

Bottom line, if it's not authenticated by one of those three I don't buy it on eBay.

Knowledge of the  subject would have eliminated the need to submit that item.

"If PSA isn't 100% certain, they'll rule something 'likely not genuine.' - How do you know this as fact?

Bottom line, you can buy an authenticated item by one of those three you can still wind up with a non-authentic autograph as shown in my last post.

To be sure, these errors are not the norm, but knowledge of the subject and careful diligence are needed to avoid these problems.
