I'm going to post this for sale. Instructions stated it needs a thumbs up from the group. Steiner sold these a few years ago with a numbered run of 27.   If anybody sees an issue, let me…Continue

I'm only posting this because they are the largest third party authenticators.Their credibility in the sports card world is quickly burning in flames. All this started with some collectors breaking…Continue

TradeGeek replied to Ryan Paine's discussion Kobe Bryant autograph opinion
"+3 I wouldn't touch any Kobe autographs right now. He did many many private signings and he was a very generous signer in public. His autographs are very plentiful. People are paying insane prices right now. If one were to wait a year many of…"

TradeGeek replied to Benny R.'s discussion Michael Jordan Autographed Jersey - Steiner Sports
"MJ has been exclusive with Upper Deck since the early 90s. I have never heard of Steiner selling any MJ items. I think the employee was correct. "

TradeGeek replied to MadSeb80's discussion real many poster movies? Thanks
"Haus Of Collectibles website doesn't contain a single authentic autograph, from what I can tell.  Their sports autos are a joke. LeBron, Kobe and Jordan autographs are hideous forgeries.  Have a look at this Jordan. Might be the…"

TradeGeek replied to Charles Phelps's discussion Kobe Bryant Auto
"Where to begin!  As others have said, the biggest issue is the terrible pen! There is NO WAY Scoreboard or Press Pass would have had him sign anything with that pen.  I believe this is a forgery. For these reasons.  1. The cards was…"

TradeGeek replied to terrier8HOF's discussion What has happened to PSA/DNA Authentication??
"The TPA issue just drives me nuts. Personally, I don't care about TPAs. I know how to research an autograph and the vast majority in my and my son's collection were obtained in person. However, they are important in the current market. And…"

TradeGeek replied to Justin Tyler's discussion 2000 Fleer Greats Yogi Berra
"This wouldn't be the first time that has happened. Upper Deck bought the right to the Fleer brand in 2005, but the actual assets were auctioned off. That particular set had many unofficial "short print" autographs. Certain ones that…"

TradeGeek replied to randy bondurant's discussion mike trout minor league hand signed autograph from the Arkansas travelers
"That looks like a bad attempt at his current quick auto. In 2010/2011 his signature was much different. Here is one a friend of mine got signed when he played for the Quakes (high A). "

TradeGeek replied to Harald Greisen's discussion www.autographbuy.com Selling forgeries in the name of Charity - A Shameless Scam
"The charity venue has been ripe with forgeries for years. My attorney purchased a Willie Mays autographed bat at a charity auction for $350. It was not only a pitiful forgery, the bat itself was a Chinese knock off of a Rawlings Big Stick (The stain…"

TradeGeek replied to Greg's discussion Is this Joe DiMaggio auto real?: PSA/DNA and Beckett (quick review) difference of opinion
"I'm not a huge fan of third party authentication, nor am I an expert on DiMaggio. But I'd trust PSA's opinion having examined the autograph in person over any quick opinion from Beckett. (A type of service that I have very little…"

TradeGeek replied to ITguy1984's discussion Griffey GU Batting Gloves-- Run or buy?
"I agree with Steve. Even if, hypothetically, you were 100% sure they are legit (and in this case it's highly questionable), you would never be able to prove it to a buyer in the future. I wouldn't touch them.  And keep in mind; there…"

TradeGeek replied to ITguy1984's discussion Griffey GU Batting Gloves-- Run or buy?
"I agree the date is concerning. I did a real quick search on Getty Images and he did not use that style in 1997. And the date on the COA is before springs training. So they very may be his gloves, but it seems unlikely they were used in a game.…"

TradeGeek replied to Anthony Mackiewicz's discussion Do you guys think forensic autograph authenticator is a reliable certification group.
"Anytime I hear "forensic" I run. I don't completely trust the big three (PSA, JSA and Beckett) much less any fly by night group with fancy "certifications". "

TradeGeek replied to Vincent S Dominick's discussion Real or fake Mike Trout autograph?
" +1  Definitely fake. I've seen worse forgeries. But Trout doesn't sign inscriptions in person. And an authentic in person Trout, on the side panel in sharpie sells for $250+. Blue ink on the sweet spot with an inscription would…"

About Me

What kind of member are you? (Check as many as apply.)
Collector
What would you like to tell us about yourself, your collecting, or business.
Primarily baseball. Mostly in person autographs. I have a large sports card collection and do collect certified autographed cards. Most of my collection was either signed in person for me or for someone I know. I generally shy away from purchasing autographs given the number of forgeries on the market.
What is your level of expertise?
Intermediate Collector
Why do you want to join Autograph Live?
I was a collector as a child and owned a retail store in high school specializing in sports memorabilia (mostly sports cards, ya it was the early 90s). Was inactive after college. Recently, my 8 year old son has become a huge baseball fan. I have started collecting again with my son after a 20 year hiatus. The shocking volume of forgeries on the market brought me here.
Who can we thank for telling you about us?
word of mouth
What are your areas of interest?
Sports
Why do you collect?
To expose my son to the same joy of baseball I had as a child.
What is your favorite autograph in your collection?
A Walter Payton photo my first employee gave me for my birthday in 1994. It is personalized and came from my friend's ex-wife in Chicago who worked in the same building as WP at the time.
For my son? Mike Trout signed a ball for him last summer. It was a BLEM he was playing catch with earlier that day. It has ketchup on it. But he landed Trout!
You can ask anyone living or dead for their autograph. Who would it be?
Walter Payton. Just to meet him
