In the course of reporting and writing a post about a newly discovered, autographed Norman Rockwell painting, I found a signed print on eBay. I"m curious why no one has even made an offer.

The autograph looks great on the print, matching up with the one on the painting, and the print is from the time of the Saturday Evening Post publication.

From a quick glance the "cover" does not reflect his original intentions. The "famous" image was not his and altered by another - this may be a sword that cuts both ways.
Yes, good point, Eric. The difference is pretty dramatic.
Hi David,
One of the things in my collection is a 1914 lithograph by Nelson Ethelred Dawson showing the Cunard Mauretania in the Mersey. It is a proof impression, initialed in pencil only as was the custom, and is a superb record of the changes Dawson made as he completed the work and refined the composition. It is unique and on different paper as well - better - and not as valued as the finished work of which there are many! A strange world.
Fantastic, Eric. Do you have a convenient image?
David
Sure :) Here. It is called a "State Proof" - I don't have an image of the finished version but considerable changes. The date is ascertained by the Cunard Building which was new at the time. Other clues are on the ship itself. After WW1, she stopped ar Southampton instead.

I just showed my 90-year-old mom from Italy and she said it looks like the ship she came over on. The U.S. Augustus.
Absolutely beautiful.

Thank you, David. I wish I had an image that showed the final version with the "corrections" but I can't find it.
