Hi All,

First of all would just like to say what a great forum,
some very interesting discussions. I'm just getting into collecting and only
have a very small collection so far so this is a great starting point!

I purchased a Michael Jackson autograph Thriller LP Flat
framed from Antiquities Of California back in 2009 and after reading some discussions
on some potential doubts with the store would like anyone to give me their
opinion. This wasn't cheap and after reading some of the reviews about
Antiquities of California would like to ask any collectors out there to give me
their own opinion on the authenticity.

I have actually visited the store when on vacation in SFO and this was one of my basis for buying from them as they seemed to be fairly reputable.

Would greatly appreciate anyone's time and assistance!

Thanks

Marc

Hi Marc, the last 2 photos are not from my collection.

They are up for auction now and I just wanted an opinion on them.

I agree that it's hard to tell between the good and bad points of a MJ autograph.

For some genuine examples of Michael Jackson's autographs, check out or article on him. We didn't use all the images in the print version, but there are several here:

http://autographmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/2.jpg

These are things that concern me:

The autograph looks drawn more than written. The small letters look like squiggles and bumps, not attempts to write letters in words.

Michael Jackson held pens at the top so he wouldn't get ink on his hand or smear the autograph. He signed quickly and didn't move his hand up and down much if at all while signing for fans, just moving his pen up and down like a pendulum, which tends to make the high and low points of his autographs lighter than the middle. Yours is fairly even throughout, which means the signer moved their hand up and down.

Ideally, I would have it checked out by Roger Epperson of REAL, but last I heard Antiquities won't accept his, PSA/DNA's or JSA's opinions.

Thats great, I may check it out with REAL then get an opinion and then take it from there not sure who they do accept. Just checked their COA and it doesnt say anything on there. Well at least I've learnt a lesson in my early days of being a collector (the hard way) and that everything is maybe not as it seems!

Hi Steve, you are referring to the 2 photos I posted that are up for auction right ?

I agree with you and also both look exactly the same and a couple of weeks ago they sold a signed fedora by  MJ and it was also the exact same signature.  Also , on all three the L in Love doesn't look like mine.

Anne,

I'm referring to Marc's piece.

Regarding the signed fedora and jacket you posted, I don't know if they're authentic or not. A lot of signed fedoras, particularly, have come on the market since MJ died. Some look good to me and some not, but the quantity of genuine looking ones that have come onto the market over the last couple of years makes me highly suspicious. I'm seeing the same or similar signatures on fedoras, jackets, album jackets and the records themselves. I'd only buy from a dealer or auction with a solid guarantee of authenticity and the reputation for backing it up.

Hi Steve, thanks for your opinion, I agree.  The signatures are so much the same on many items I have seen that I do question them.

Hi

Thought I could show you the MJ autograph from my collection. This was signed in Paris in 1997. As you can see this is not a "rushed" one, and the letters is more "readable"...

What a great example, and I would say unquestionably good.

Hi !

I show you my "Thriller Lp" autograph. Signed in 1983.

It's the most beautiful of my MJ collection !

Any thoughts on this Jackson

Thanks

I THINK it's good, Grant. I'm not confident, but I think it likely is.
