Worst music sale performers of 2018?

What's your opinion of who's up and who's down in music autograph prices? John brennan has been auctioning a heap of the same old stuff off month after month which barely gets mb, suprising- surprised effecting prices or not?

Agreed. The discussion appeared to include temporary/short term trends, which is why I thought it would appropriate to mention that rising stars might have the quicker return. No denying the long term desirability of bonafide cultural icons though.

The demand for George Michael signed items seems to be relatively strong. Just last month on eBay, a simple personalized and PSA-encapsulated signed cut autograph sold for $900. An unauthenticated, but real, signed CD booklet sold for $411. And a PSA signed photo sold for $1000 last month. Another signed CD booklet, encapsulated by Beckett, sold for $600. As with other big stars, however, there are tons of fake George Michael autographs out there.

This thread brings me to the next question. Do a lot of collectors buy based on impulsion, the next big star without being a fan or do they buy autographs at the end of the day that will hold no real value just to fill a collection like many of The Beatles collectors do they buy everyone associated with The Beatles but dont buy a complete set of the bands. Buying graphs based on a penny stock someone mentioned or just buying music which is favorable because its signed.

For me, I only collect things that hold great meaning for me - the bands and artists I love and saw many times (Bowie, Byrne IP, Yorke IP, Corgan, Gilmour, Kraftwerk, Waters IP), the TV shows like Kolchack, The Honeymooners cast vintage and original rehearsal photographs, the Star Trek cast vintage...a few films.

Im the same. Like people going nuts over Eminem offers. Im not a fan so I have no interest no matter how valuable he may be. I have to like someone to want their autograph.

There are a lot of JFK collectors (I know this isn’t music-related) who will buy almost anything signed by anyone associated with the assassination partly because those autographs will be much cheaper than an actual JFK autograph, and maybe eventually they’ll save up for a real JFK.

I'm fairly certain I've said something like this before, but I think it's worth mentioning in this thread. While it's probably safe to assume that pro collectors in general are not fans of the majority of the people they've gotten autographs from, my take is that pros are mostly incredibly out of touch with music and related collectibles. And only part of what I'm talking about is popularity and signing trends. Most indie artists and rising stars are not difficult to get signatures from pre-show and post-show at the venue. This is hardly a secret. And yet I see pro collectors trying to stalk some of these artists at airports and hotels, freak them out, and then base the difficulty of obtaining them based on their own sleazy experiences. Of course the pricing is then way, way out of whack, leaving them holding on to their inventory for silly amounts of time.

But that's a relatively minor part of that. I think the general trend is that pros are so focused on the heaviest of the heavyweights that they really don't know much of anything about anyone who doesn't fall into that category. And, this may come across as a cheap shot, but I think that pros have dated and limited musical tastes. Maybe not everyone (I'll point out that JG autographs used to have a really cool focus on rising music stars at very affordable prices), but it's the overwhelming sense I get. There have been several interesting autograph opportunities I've seen both pros and collectors ignore while they get excited about the latest from a one hit wonder from the 80s.

My towering example this year of a "pro" being out of touch here is the high profile pro who started offering not only Paramore autographs this year, but was also taking orders for video shoutouts from lead singer Hayley Williams. Anyone with even pedestrian knowledge of the demographic of that fan base should have guessed how that would play out. I don't follow anything autograph related at all on Twitter, and I was seeing Paramore fans shred this guy to pieces on my feed before I saw anything about it elsewhere. Seems like these alleged pros aren't too interested in research or common sense.

I seen Bob dylan play the other night and after the show there were 5 security guys around him and one couple waiting for autographs or a photo, just relax Bob it's not America. The indie or pub scene is laid back here most of the time you can mingle with the artist. You'd appreciate the pro's a lot more if they supported the bands but i don't collect stuff they have signed because the market is flooded with items. Id rather watch a band rock out then worry about getting their graphs but if you do meet them cool!
