Recommended magnifying glass?

Can anyone recommend a good magnifying glass? I see a ton on ebay and Amazon, but I'm sure much of that is junk.

 

What is the best power for examining autographs closely? 5X? Is 10X overdoing it?

John Reznikoff showed us a very good instrument on his youtube page.  One is called an Optic and another is a Pentax magnifier.  All of which I am assuming would give you a crystal clear look at the item being examined.

 

I'm sure John wouldn't mind his information being here on the site.  It really is great for all collectors to know.
