Steve Zarelli commented on Kelly's photo

"I think $150 - $200 without a COA is a bit high. You can commonly but authentic Mantle 8x10s on ebay (without a COA) for $130 - $140. Bear in mind, black and white photos are typically not as desirable as color, so that is another factor. "

Steve Zarelli replied to A'ndre Gonawela's discussion Opinions on George H. W. Bush Bookplate?
"I can't say with certainty because I do not have a comprehensive Autopen library for GHWB, , but I agree it does not appear to be an Autopen. You typically would not see tapered starts and finishes like this signature has with an Autopen.  "

Yuri Gagarin, 1st in space, Autograph Study by Steve Zarelli

Posted on March 4, 2017 at 6:44am 6 Comments

On April 12, 1961, Soviet Air Force pilot Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space. Launched aboard his Vostok spacecraft, Gagarin orbited the Earth and beat American Alan Shepard into space by 23 days.

On March 27, 1968, Yuri Gagarin was killed in a training flight crash at the age of 34.

Despite not being as much of a "household name" as Alan Shepard, John Glenn or Neil Armstrong, Gagarin is a tremendous historical figure and there is strong demand for his…

When the “proof picture” proves it's a fake!

Posted on August 1, 2016 at 10:00am 12 Comments

Astute collectors know that crooked sellers use phony proof pictures to sell their fakes all the time. They steal images from other signings, pluck a photo from an internet search, and so on.

These so-called proof pictures rarely prove anything, but in this case, it proves the item is a fake, or at least, it is not the same photo that is being offered!

Here is a photo supposedly signed by Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle.…

James Stewart was a willing through-the-mail signer for many years. However, after suffering medical problems in the 1990s, his office fulfilled mail requests with secretarial signatures and an Autopen machine.

The proxy signatures -- typically signed "James…

Hello.  I seem to remember if my memory serves me correctly that someone said you could kindly recommend someone who could iron out creases on archival paper as opposed to shirts!!!.  I was wondering if anyone deals in ironing out creases on photographs.  Apologies for bothering you if I've got the wrong person. kind regards & best wishes Michelle

Hey Mr. Z, was wondering if you know of anywhere online that I could find good examples of Bill Anders autograph? I can only seem to find autopen examples, I know he's a rare signer and theres probably more autopens and fakes out there than genuine sigs, but I've been looking at a few pieces and can't tell?
