Hi All,

Just realized that Francis Gumm was born 100 years ago June 10th! She died a few weeks before my own birthday in 1969. My Judy is below:

One of the enjoyable things for me in the hobby has been helping others in the search for material when asked.  A fellow collector and I searched off and on for nearly two years for the Judy of his dreams.  We finally found it and I was so happy for him.

I've acquired another treasure from her recently (see below).  This was inscribed by Judy on her personal stationary in March of 1938.  She was in Chicago promoting MGM's EVERYBODY SING.  This was 3 weeks after VARIETY magazine had announced that she would starring in the upcoming production of THE WIZARD OF OZ.  It was an exciting time and the beginning of a legend.

Same here! I just helped two collectors in finding and assessing a 1939 and a 1940 Garland.  Great fun placing her location and all. Wound up reading Parsons and many others as well as local papers to get the dope.

My collector friend and I looked at many exemplars over time and download images galore.  We "co-authored" a brief study of her signature over the years, but never polished it up for submission.  Judy's more difficult than many as there have been so many forgeries (& honestly mistaken secretarials) on the market.  Yes, I agree, it's fun doing the research. I'm still more than happy to offer whatever assistance I can to folks looking at an autograph.

As am I when I can. That is amazing - I co-authored a Judy study as well perhaps 20 years ago! It's so long ago - I remember the guy's name was Jonathan and I recall working with Scott Schecter on it. At that time I was mostly illustrating the article with typical examples from her different peroiods.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it. She is very available depening on one's budget. R&R auction in NH is a good place to look but you'll need to make an account to get a bidder number. And be sure to work the Buyers Premium into your bid or you'll be is for a surprise.

You can always ask questions here :)
