Hello, I'm looking for opinions as to whose signature this might be. I'm told it's a particular person but a hurriedly scribbled version of his usual signature. I don't want to say who it's supposed to be because of confirmation bias. Thanks.

You will get more traction if you add the name in the title. More responses as well.

The whole point is, I don't want to put the name up because of confirmation bias. If I don't get much response I'll put the name up later.

what is confirmation bias?  thats a new one.

Tendency to consider it might be who I was told it probably was, rather than look at it objectively.

I'd say many people won't get past this initial inquiry.  I looked at it and have no idea except it looks like something military.... but can't be sure.  Most have no time for a ground up guessing game with absolutely no hint of any direction except the year 1942.  Best of luck.

It's not meant to be a guessing game. I was looking for objective opinions that weren't tempered by people knowing who I was originally told it was. However. I'll now repost with the name I was given.

It makes NO diffrence to me if I know the name or not - it still going to be run through the same severe strainer of authentication, just as if it had PSA papers. I note the writer has had trouble with 3 words and there are seemingly odd pen lifts. Two words are quite clunky and uncomfortably written. European origins perhaps. Military yes.

The person the pass was for wrote it and then got it signed as is usual.

You are also making assumptions about people, and where is the name? It's been an hour. Apparently you needed to be told who it was yourself, yes?

I posted it under Is this autograph real. I had paid no attention to the signature and would have had no idea who it was if asked. I was then told by an eminent military historian that it was almost certainly Field Marshal Montgomery. Albeit written in a hurry, so not quite the same as his usual signature. If you look at my post in is it real, I've listed a couple of reasons as to why it may be real.  I'm just looking for further opinions on it as I am not even remotely an expert in this field. I am not making assumptions about people it is a fact that no one at all is immune to confirmation bias though, the more experience in the subject one has, the less the bias.

Yes, it is European [though written while serving in Iraq in WW11, and it is military. It's a leave pass for a British army soldier.

This can be picked up here.

This thread now serves no purpose I can see so I am closing it.
