Hi

I am thinking of buying this autograph. I think I looks like a genuine Alfred Hicthcock. I would love to hear your views.

All the best

Hi Eric

The autograph was bought through an auction house similar to Ebay but located here in Europe.

I hope it is not a copy. There are no return policies. I only have the sellers word that this autograph was given in-person.

That is very worrisome. You paid perhaps 1/5 to 1/7 what it is worth. I hope you make it out OK.

Please keep us updated.

Best wishes,

Eric

If the site can be translated I would look over the Terms and Conditions should you provide a link.

Hi Eric

I cross my fingers. It was won in a bidding, so it could also have gone higher.

The seller is in the 70s  (have her name birth year etc.), and it should have been signed on the boat between Denmark and Sweden.  I will put up some extra pictures when I get the autograph. Thanks for all the feedback. The seller told it had been hanging on the wall for 10 years, which have caused the fading.

Best regards

Troels

Did you buy it framed?

"...It was won in a bidding, so it could also have gone higher..."

Yes, but for some reason it did not. All things being equal one would expect the price to be in line with other similar examples.

As far as the price that Troels's Hitchcock sold for... my Hitchcock sketch done in 1972 in London wasn't that far off that price when I bought it a few years ago in another auction venue.  Sometimes bargains are truly to still be had...which I hope is the case with this piece!

In 1963 Hitchcock was apparently in Denmark on September 2nd and in Sweden on September 16th. This of course is circumstantial at best. The promo tour dates are at odds with other sources.

Here he is in Denmark 9.2.63:

I have confirmed that Hitchcock and Heddren flew to Sweden together

Hitchcock was also in Sweden in 1966 shooting The Prize.

Actually, THE PRIZE in 1963 was a Mark Robson directed film....but does have Hitchcockian elements for sure!  It's primarily set in Stockhom.

1966 with would have been TORN CURTAIN for Hitch... but that was mostly filmed on the Universal backlot in Los Angeles.

He was in Copenhagen and environs for filming TOPAZ in 1969, I believe.

I'd say the story by the seller of the sketch is quite plausible.  Especially given Hitch's activity over there in the 60s between filming and promo work during the decade.  That's as long as it truly is so-called "live ink".
