Saw this photo of Jimi in front of what look like Vox Super Beatle amps.  Is this real? The only Vox amp I can find that has been authenticated that Jimi played was very early in his career and much smaller.

Thoughts?

I don’t think they were his amps. I believe that’s from the sound check for the Hollywood Bowl show.

That makes sense.  TY

By the way that show will be released in November!! vinyl and cd.

Any idea whose amps those were?

I know that the other artists on the bill were The Mamas and the Papas and Scott McKenzie.

Neither of them that I know of used Vox amps.

?? ?I only post this - I have no idea.

Hendrix Tour Played Vox Amp

This amp and speaker combo toured with Jimi as part of the backline for The Californians who toured with Hendrix in 1967 across the UK for 25 dates, beginning with Finsbury Park Astoria on March 31st.

,,,The unlikely tour line-up very nearly didn’t make it past the opening night due to Hendrix’s taste for pyrotechnics, remembered Californians guitarist Mike Brookes, who continued playing with bandmate O’Hara until ten years ago. Brookes (who owned this unit) recalls: “At Finsbury Park, Jimi shoved a petrol-soaked rag under his guitar at the side of the stage. I didn’t know what he was up to. He grabbed it on the last number of his set, went back on stage, and when he was playing, he struck a match and it just went up – and so did the curtains! What a dangerous thing to do! He had a fight with the tour manager, who was going to kick him off the tour. But he didn’t in the end, and the rest is history..."
