Hi everyone,

I am collecting information on 3rd party authenticators. I have dealt regularly with PSA/DNA, JSA and GAI, but am looking for information on who you think are some no-so reputable authenticators out there, as well as some possible personal experiences with them??

Alright!!!  That makes me feel a lot better!  :)  Also they have a 30 day return policy so hopefully that is a good sign.

Here's mine for comparison sake.

Neat-o!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is a great pic!  :D  Thanks again, so much!

There are two reasons why I'm puzzled by the Verified Autographs website though:

1) Their prices for what Rodgers items are much lower than anyone was charging to have items signed at his private signings earlier this year.  Just an 8x10 with no inscription would run you $150 if you preordered from Denver Autographs, about $175 through Waukesha Sportscards and much, much more through Mounted Memories or Steiner.  $89 for an 8 x10 with a XLV MVP inscription is actually a steal and puzzling compared to other dealers prices for a similar item.

2) Is Verifed Autographs an authentication company or a store?  Being both is a odd conflict of interest.

3) I don't like when a seller of Rodgers SB items isn't upfront with where and when it was signed.  I think can count the number of post-Super Bowl private signings Rodgers has done on one hand.  It's not too complex to tell me when they got it.

Those are my questions/concerns . . . but that being said, your autograph and the Rodgers and Favre examples I saw on the Verified Autographs website looked great.

For what it's worth, if I was looking to buy an authentic Rodgers, the first three places I would check out would be:

1) Denver Autographs (www.denverautographs.com)

2) Waukesha Sports Cards (www.waukeshasportscards.com)

3) Legends of the Field (www.legendsofthefield.com)

Ahh...Okay!  Thank you!  I will check out those pages.

Some ebay sellers are actually legit too.  "Johnsvault" and "thejerseysourceautographs" come to mind,  Their Rodgers have the JSA witness protection certificates.  JSA was onsite for the first massive Rodgers signing at his house in February this year, as well as a couple others I think.

Julie,

I don't know his autograph, but yours does not look like it was signed by the same person who signed Richard's, and his was from a respected licensed signing. I'm concerned.

Rodgers is still kind of tough.  Before this year, he wasn't exactly the hottest autograph on the sports market, and examples were actually somewhat rare.  He didn't do many signings, so you basically had to go to MM, Steiner or Radtke for an authentic example prior to 2011

His signature was pretty consistent this year, but there are a couple of variations.  Believe it or not, this is authentic, though more indicative of his "old" signature:

Rodgers Signed Football - Beckett

This one was more recently signed, probably at the February 28 signing.  The R on his signatures tends to look this way when he's signing footballs.

Rodgers - JSA

For comparison sake, here's Waukesha Sports Cards ebay inventory right now.

Authentic Rodgers - Waukesha

I don't know what to make of Verified Autographs, other than their stuff looks good at first glance.  Again though, those prices are surprisingly low for stars like Rodgers, Manning and Brady.  And the authentication is puzzling.  How many signings has Brady done for Verified Autographs?  The market for Brady and Manning is pretty tightly controlled, or so I thought.  Here's my other problem.  Favre items don't seem to have the Favre hologram.  Unless the item was signed in the 90's (which these apparently weren't), that's a HUGE red flag.  Favre never does public signings anymore, and his holograms is always affixed to items he signs at private signings.  Items lacking his #4 hologram are almost inevitably fake.

I think Peyton was charging about $200 minimum at his last public signing.

Heard he's really nice when you meet him.  I actually got two Peyton's through the mail his rookie year, though it took several months.

I checked out sportsmemorabilia.com, which is a consignment site that carries everything from obvious forgeries to quality material by PSA/DNA, JSA and Steiner. The cheapest Rogers was $138. Everything else was $170+ (including lots of iffy looking GAIs for $179-$199), with JSA certified signed photos starting at $219.

You can pick off a bargain here and there from people who don't know what they have, but I can't understand why a legit dealer selling a genuine one for $89.
