I can appreciate that. As I mentioned, RE isn’t “automatic” but as close as it gets. I’ll say this, he’s more accurate than the “Big Three” TPAs on music.

Unfortunately the TPAs getting it wrong so often (Roger included) is one of the many reasons I tend to rely on the opinions of collectors vs any major company or entity. This Brian May PSA ceritfied mess comes to mind... And reading the seemingly endless posts about frustrated clients who find TPAs to be less and less accurate, if I ever need a classic hollywood piece I'd go to someone like Eric or Eddy on here. Same goes for any other music artist or athlete. I trust people who do nothing but study their favorite star over a TPA by miles.

Part of the problem (my opinion) is that these guys are getting contracted by auction houses to do mass authentication.

Rockhurst Auctions - Steve Grad and Beckett

Millcreek Sports- Steve Grad and Beckett

RR Auction- Epperson

Heritage Auctions- PSA - Hell, they even do “pre authenticated guaranteed to pass PSA IF you submit within 30 days”. I guess on day 31 it magically turns into a bad auto.

I understand the cash grab by the TPAs I just wonder at what accuracy cost it’s happening. It’s good money if you can get $100 per item and are authenticating 100+ pieces a month

Roger is excellent when it comes to some artists but he does have weakness when it comes to Queen.  I’ve had to correct him in the past when he’s passed fan club fakes as genuine.

But I agree, the mere fact this item has been declared as not genuine by an authenticator makes it less desirable to a lot of collectors.

Yes, I’m not suggesting RE is perfect. But I think he’s as consistent as we have and I agree that when a respected TPA poo poo’s it, it makes it mental gymnastics internally and tough to resell if that intel is widely known.

I think a member here summed it up perfectly when he said that Beckett’s Signature Review service isn’t worth a plug nickel.

I sent them a Jerry Lee Lewis that was IP and they quick opinion’d as not likely genuine. I resubmitted it 4 days later and it got a “likely to pass Beckett authentication” LOL.

Steve Grad PSA days was great at sports, OK at music / entertainment.

Grad isn’t the only one at BAS. Larry, Brian and whatever apparent interns they are using, it’s gone downhill dramatically.

I’m really tempted to submit a secretarial signature they authenticated, and with the encapsulation sticker showing. LOL.

Hilarious if they say “likely not to pass”……..

I tried that once with PSA and it came back as “Likely to Pass…”. It was a well-known forgery style that was being offered at a very high price.

Yikes.

I’ll say this. If it is authentic, I think it’s a beautiful example.
