Just wondering everyones thoughts on adding Chevy to this vintage item. I asked this previously about a mail-in event and decided it was way too risky to get it done by mail. I have an opportunity to meet Chevy in person next month for about $200 I could get my item signed at his table. I really want to get this done, probably cover up Murray's signature with a sticky note with an arrow pointing to the area for Chevy to sign. (Trying to bypass any potential animosity with Murray signing so close to Chevy's picture)
If I do decide to get this done, what would be the best pen to use to try and match the others? Any other tips would be very welcome. Ill need to purchase tickets by tomorrow to save a little money. Hoping I can make my decision before then.
Here's the item again

I'd be able to get my money back. You're not saying/doing the right thing.
I'm revising this thread because I will have another chance to meet Chevy and get this done!!! So glad I made this post to look back on. Hopefully he won't cancel again.
I now have an option to add an inscription. Question is, should I? Its a movie quote up to 6 words. Im thinking about "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not" sneaky way to get a printed variation of his autograph hidden in a quote.. or would it be too much on this item and I should just stick with signature only. I'd love some opinions if you got em
Personally, I'd just get the signature. He can probably manage to place a decent signature on the album but to ask for more writing might be a huge risk.
Apart from Bill M. the others just signed their names so a big dark inscription from CC might look out of place.
Hes charging $150 for an inscription up to 6 words so I think he will be bound to do it in a way that id want it done?, but I have no clue how he is at conventions. Will he see Bill next to him and screw it up on purpose? I'll have my 5 year old daughter with me and tell him it will be passed down to her. Try to pull some heart strings. I agree with it might looking out of place compared to the others but I hate how his signature is these days anyways. I think I'd have more of a problem asking if he could place a full name signature instead (which is really what I would want) and this may be a better compromise
I'll have to give this some thought because I do agree with you about the added risk of screwing this item up
Please post pics of the end product. This is awesome! Good luck!
Thank you, im definitely excited about it. I'll post later for sure
That is a genius on two levels. A "second" autograph, and a line from what he actually did on SNL. Yes, do that.
Now, because he's always been known as a jerk, be prepared for him to not do it, or write something else, etc.
Hes selling inscriptions for an extra $150 up to 6 words. I assume he would have to do it?
That's a good point about what could go wrong. Also, when I had Garth Hudson (The Band) sign my Robbie Robertson CD (he played on a few songs on it), he signed right over Robbie's signature!!! The more someone writes, the more that has a chance of happening. Also, the more you ask someone to write, the more they have a chance of holding your album, and doing something else -- blacking out the teeth of another cast member, or putting Xs over the eyes of Belushi, thinking he's being funny.
That being said, I'd still have him do that inscription. It really makes the piece nicer. For example, would you like a Scorpions signed album just a bit more of someone wrote "Rock you like a hurricane" before their name, or a White album with John writing "You say you want a revolution" above his name.
Thanks for this info. If I did go with the inscription, would you think a good way of going about it would be to take a large piece of construction paper with a hole cut out for the area id want him to sign? I could even use a vinyl cover and cut it matching the construction paper hole so the entire vinyl is enclosed and he only has one place to sign without risking him moving the construction paper out of place
On a a few unrelated notes -- I HATE when bands sign on the back cover where their small pictures are. I don't care if their faces aren't on the cover, I'd much rather have them sign the cover (although this album looks awesome). And, I have this album somewhere. I'd gladly give it to you, and if you're ever going to frame yours when it's completely signed -- you can put mine in showing the front, and your signed one showing the back.
And, might I add...I'd get people to sign the record on the cover that aren't pictured but part of the show -- Lorne Michaels, and whatever writers they had at that time, and the band leader (perhaps that was Paul Schaffer back then)
I love your idea. The very first thing I did when I acquired this many years ago was to buy a copy of the album so I do have one already. Never thought about getting that one signed. I have a TON of other SNL members on other items but it would be cool to have some big names on the spare album to frame with this one displaying both front and back. Ill keep that in mind for the future.
