I don't say that all agreed, if I did I misspoke. I meant they all opened, or some of them, and Justin makes the final decision. That is my understanding.
I see. Well, this doesn't exactly inspire confidence if that's the case.
I had my own interesting experience with them when I asked if they could help me with an expensive autograph I needed more opinions on.
I ultimately decided to go elsewhere for assistance.
I haven't used them once? Twice? Years ago and they were honest about who knew what re Gleason. They were good in that you could ask direct questions. I don't know what their deal is now. As mentioned, Justin used to be a regular contributor here. I recall his Roger Waters composites of real and Mexican forgeries or whatever it was. Most helpful. It might have been he who identified Tony Ford as well from a photo sent out by "Andy Peters" as himself. That was huge.
I meant to type "opined" back there, not "opened"...
Geez.
Looking in from the outside, that whole Andy Peters thing is enough to keep me away from them. Not cool to try to make a professional reputation by discrediting another authentication service. I don't have a dog in that race. That's just my two cents.
I believe that happened well after ACOA was established, perhaps 5 years later. I don't believe that was the motivation for the identification. If it was him who found that information, IIRC he was asked to do the research by another party.
One could draw all sorts of inferences from that fact that you and I have pointed out secretarials, forgeries and preprints at PSA, certain auction houses and established sources.
I don't care.
The whole thing stinks.
If it's as big as claimed, I'm still waiting for a legitimate media outlet or some other unbiased reporting on it.
Crickets thus far (unless I'm mistaken).
Eric -
I'm a hobbyist who basically funds my hobby by some small sales and trade. I only base my opinions on my observations, consultations and study in engaging with other hobbyists.
I'm not attempting to build a brand or a relatively fledgling company.
That is like waiting for PSA to admit to certifying thousands of Gleason secretarials until 2017 or whenever I did that work. They still are I think. It is clear that "andy peters" IS Tony Ford. Tony refunded $50,000 + in forged Bowie's - and not for fun or his reputation. Those items would have been evidence, unless you KNEW you were going to lose in litigation. I was refunded $1,500 for a self portrait and it was not even wanted back. No one accepts his papers anymore. But nearly everyone was sold something "obtained by a record executive"and at an absurd price - the same old story that was in the SRV, Floyd and Zeppelin thread from recent days. If you follow "andy's" own suggestions about buying Bowie at that site, he eliminates himself. He also doesn't sell there anymore, after not moving anything for perhaps a year.
I'm going to refrain from commenting as some others are now doing in regard to this subject. It's not helpful. I'll wait for independent reporting.
I appreciate you clarifying your account of how matters stand.
I would too.
Eddy, no one but you said anything about you trying to build a brand name or a "relatively fledgeling company." You have lost me. I don't what know what appears to have changed at ACOA. As you know, I don't rely on any TPA's. Just me, and the few opinions I seek here from certain people. Like the Crawford I wanted your opinion on. I too fund my hobby by sales. In fact, most all of my collections have been rendered free and then some at this point.
