A fellow member has asked for opinions about this signed 1984 Van Halen album in another thread.  There are things that I like and things that concern me about it so I wanted to post it as a new discussion with the hope that we can get more members to comment on it.  Thanks in advance.

Send photos of your "spot on" autographs. I would be really interested to see them and get the low down on where they came from. Put your money where your mouth is. I am afraid your stuff is bad. All I have heard from you is "Gong". You dont get it. Im not in this to sell items but to add truth to this corrupt hobby because I am sick of the diseption! I love this for the right reasons. Not motivated by money. I do this for fun and getting ripped off or misguided is not fun!

My concern with Dave's signature on the album has not only been an absence of a year added to the signature but also the style of the "th" in Roth.  He typically crosses the "t" in the style of a star.  I asked a friend of mine who is very close to the band about this and he told me that although that is true he does sign his last name in the style shown on the album being discussed here.  He said that it isn't common but he does sign in that style on occasion.  He also has a couple of Eddie signatures that are carefully and fully signed "Eddie Van Halen".

Holy cow.  Disappear for a few days and a war breaks out over a discussion that is over two months old and not even Roger was willing to offer an opinion on.  I even received a private message about it and it wasn’t even from Mattias who probably figured that nobody cared by now.

This album does not belong to me.  It belongs to Mattias and the discussion originated as a subtopic in another discussion.  I have posted the link at the beginning of the thread.  My concerns were listed there.  It is true that Dave would add 2008 to his 2007 signature but that doesn’t explain why he didn’t add anything to this one.  I am not saying that it is not authentic.  I am just curious about it.  That's all.  Let’s calm down and discuss this rationally because I am actually glad that members are finally responding to it.  I will send Mattias a private message so that he knows the discussion is still alive.  Thanks.

I have two sets of VH autographs, and some solo stuff signed. The record doesn't look good to me. The autographs don't look real.

And let me state something about "getting them from photographer." That means NOTHING. It really doesn't. I once got blues legend John Lee Hooker. This autograph dealer in town that I know, always gets signed guitars and things to sell on his website. He gave his guitar to the girlfriend/tour manager of Hooker, and she took it into his room. She came out with this beuatifully signed guitar. He was thrilled. I looked at it and laughed. He asked why I laughed. I said "Dude...he doesn't sign his name. He doesn't know how to read and write. He always prints his name, and it's usually sloppy." He was so pissed, figuring she must've just signed it herself. He told me later he just washed the signature off.

You could hand the record to Michael Anthony himself...doesn't mean the band signed it. I've been backstage with bands. They sometimes screw around and sign each others names. Heck, many Beatles sets were all signed by Paul back in the day.

I'm not 100% on this, I just don't think the signatures look perfect. They seem off.

Attach photos of your items. If they dont match your stuff is most likely bad.

All you doubters at least post photos of what you have. I would be interested to analyze. Not only did I get items from the bands photogrpaher I also received back stage laminates and badges from several concerts during the 2007 and 2008 tour. I will send a photo of a few of them as well. This photographer was well respected and serviced several bands. All his stuff is good. He quit the business when Rob Zombie kicked him in the face during a concert in the late 2000's. He had it will rock stars and their personalities and gave it up, What do you have to back up your claims of authenticity?

See photos of a couple of VH albums, Magazine autograph of eddie and satins from a few of the concerts during the 2007/2008 reunion tour. This is more proof than anything I have seen thus far my friends. I have a feeling your stuf is fake if it doesnt look similar.

What, did every one shut up? Prove I am wrong. I have more factual data than anyone regarding VH autographs. Please prove me wrong. This persons autographed album is golden as I mentioned in the beginning. Just accept it. Why is it so hard to allow a person to enjoy their item when it is authentic? I wouldnt come across so confident if I wasnt. I do this for the love of the art and I have resources into autographs for certain bands especially during 90's and 00's. It sucks when you realize your stuff is bad. I have been there before. If your stuff doesnt look like his could be good but I would have my concerns.

Sorry I didn't respond more quickly at 3:00 AM.  I am not saying that you are wrong.  I simply have my doubts.  I refuse to argue with you.  We are entitled to our opinions.  I posted mine in a link.  Don't worry what other people say and enjoy your collection.  Mattias will be happy to know that Kiss Destroyer 1966 has authenticated his 1984 album.  Have a nice day.

What actually happened kissdestroyer, is that people lost all respect for you from your first post on. You berated and went hostile with the first person who disagreed with you. One comment, "Gong", set you off and you havent stopped since. You have shown examples, but no one is arguing with you, so they are pretty pointless. And if you think that some photographer who is well known and new many bands cant have bad stuff, then please think again. So this is why no one is commenting. You may think its because you are right and proved a point, but its really because of your attitude problem and the lack of respect you have shown ever member on this thread. No one is going to try and intelligently discuss autographs with someone who they dont respect nor someone who has acted as you have. Good luck getting educated members to help you with your discussions in the future. But according to what ive read, you already know it all anyway so you shouldnt need to ask. Nor would it surprise me if you had some connection to this item and thus your desire to defend it so hard and push your opinions down peoples throats who really arent taking you serious to begin with. Have fun with all the kiss autographs you have "destroyed"

I completely understand your point and it is valid. I did completely overreact. I was shocked to get a response of "Gong" with no take or justification. Seems very childish and inconsiderate to the person that posted the album. People spend a great deal of money on these items and no one likes to feel like they got ripped off.  especially when I am 100% convinced his item is good. Why are persons that make others feel bad when they make accusations with no take or justification not admonished for their acts. My first response to this person was just asking what gong was and for him to justify his point. He said because it didnt look like his but failed to post photos of what he was comparing it to. Put your money where  your mouth is. I dont care if people discredit me for what I communicated to one individual. I do agree calling him names was totally uncalled for and for that I do apologize. My point is have a take before you start telling people their stuff is bad. That is as hurtful as being called names. I happen to be very good with autographs from certain bands and eras. I thought I would help others to feel good about certain items or perhaps try to get their money back. I appreciate the feedback but it was not necessary. I already know I should not have called him names. I am very sensitive to people that discredit with no credentials. I will be more careful in the future. I almost felt like a response of "Gong" was just as bad a being called a name. Thanks
