On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Geraldine,

Thanks so much! There are a lot of really good people involved in this discussion.

Yes Wendy, that was great!

Wendy "Bush-Whacked" LLLL MMMM FFF AAA OOOO

note that the auction description is inaccurate:

"A lifesize cardboard standee of Michael Jackson from his promotional ad campaign for L.A. Gear. The standee is signed in black marker, "To Bush Love Michael Jackson."

this is not from THE 1989/1990 campaign at all. picture yes. but not the actual product.

first one sold on eBay was in late October 2009

Wow Justin, good investigation there!
Michael must have resurrected himself to sign this standee. Seriously though, another supportive example of the fact that Michael did not sign his nor any of the other items.

Yes, ding, ding, ding. Bush messed up with this one.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dying to see this bush theft arrested!!!

I just searched the archives of a MJ fan site. They had a forum called THIS IS IT/O2 Concert Merchandise. People were posting that they were looking forward to the concert merchandise. On 6-23-2009 someone posted that they emailed AEG/02 Merchandise and they said:

Re: This Is It/ O2 Concert Merchandise

I e-mailed the people at the o2 merch & they expect the online merch will be up & running a week before the shows start.

So to me, this means that it was slim to none that that merchandise was out and ready for MJ to sign. The concerts were to start the next month in July. So how could Bush have it just sitting around in June 2009 for Michael to sign when it was not even available yet.

Also, as Justin pointed out, Bush thought this was an earlier version from the 1990's, but oops, wrong one!

The deal with Bravado comes back to bite them.  I love it.

Sometimes early versions of items are shipped out to connections. is it possible that could be the case? Need to know that info for sure.

OMG - You are so right Justin: Lot #749 on Page 100 of Catalog is the same Michael Jackson standee (which states it is signed by Michael To Bush), but was not produced until 2010 - see here for the years of all the standees (18th down on WEBPAGE here), which states it was produced for This is It; it lists 2010, though, and is being sold by Bravado and Triumph International!
