On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

hmm ok, thats good.

Do we know if this is a real sig??? I'm really curious.

No expert has chimed in yet, I think. I've been searching for other pictures of autographs including "& family", but no luck.

It would be good to know more about the provenance. He was in Las Vegas with the children in Dec 2006, so it could be a fancy signature in thanks for the stay, or something like that.

I'm positive I've seen that F by him and the handwriting feels right to me, even if it's unusually elegant. But I absolutely defer to the experts, I've ventured opinions before that most people disagreed with... ;).

Yes yes and yes.  The T and F.  The Y is incomplete.  The "h" in Thanks is hanging in mid air, separated from rest of letters.  The "Dave" - letters look too small and smooshed for MJ.  Yet the Michael Jackson signature has elements that look alright....

In a nutshell:  Listen to Steve and ask Roger.  Hope it's a good one :)

Your's is a little similar to one I bought over a year ago and asked questions about here.

You can see the discussion and autograph here. http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/just-bought-a-michae...

The signature was on the back of a rare, never seen Thriller era pic. It was supposedly grabbed out of a junk drawer at Neverland at a BBQ in 1989-1991. It could have been a family member who signed for MJ was what the seller told me when I was given a refund after Roger felt not authentic.

Just looked at that and yes some similarities in the regular writing but the signature sure doesnt look like his. It resembles slightly a vintage signature but not the 90's. Here is one that I wonder about. This record came out in 2001 yet the signature looks like a 80's style signature. Is it real or fake?

This is a legit MJ autograph that I've seen into the 90s. But it wasn't his typical street signature passed perhaps the late 80s. It had started to look more like the one he signed until his death.

Thats why I showed it because this had to be signed past 2001 since this CD didnt come out till then.

This CD was published with a preprinted signature on it.

Oh, now it makes sense. Thanks.

Hi Charlotte,

This is not an original signature.  (legit as Steve said, just not original).  The signature is a preprint lifted from the title page of MJ's 1988 autobiography, Moonwalk.  Minus the starburst at the end of the N.

Steve, have you seen CD's with the preprint on them?  I was thinking someone added the "Love" separately.  It's at a different slant from the signature.

I don't like it. My opinion.
