Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale
On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Yea because when Michael was alive no one cared about his autographs. I bought tons of authentic ones from anywhere to $50 to $150 a pop

No. Because Michael Jackson took Rat Boy to court and stopped him from selling Michael's personal property which Rat Boy had looted from MJ's home without Michael's knowledge or consent. You know, Theft.

Like any famous person's signature after they've died, Michael's signature has dramatically increased in value. However. It is ridiculous and factually inaccurate, to say the least, to state that no one was interested in Michael Jackson's MICHAEL JACKSON'S signature/autograph when alive. That's not what history shows. Right up to the last moments of his life apparently, if you look at page 174 of Bush's book, where he claims he got Michael to sign this sketch just after the stroke of midnight on June 25, 2009. I already posted that info on page 223 of this discussion but here it is once again:

Need authenticity opinion of MJ MTV Award Statue for 1984 Thriller on Sanders Auction Block.
I am doing a research for a friend about MJ's MTV Award that is currently up for auction at Sanders. That particular MTV award is from 1984. The auction house have listed the award as 7 pounds 11 ounces. However, Information from other sources are indicating the early MTV award statues from 1984 to mid 90s are lighter in weight and not as heavy as indicated.
I have contacted both the trophy manufacture and MTV directly. But none have any data sheets for the early version of the trophy because there were no saved computer records back in 1984. The only record they have is for the current version, which is 7 pounds 3 ounces.
From what I have learned, both the early and newer version were never this heavy (i.e. 7 pounds 11 ounces)
I am hoping someone here can point me to the right direction or have information on the actual weight of the early version of the statue from 84, 85, etc.Here is the link

To the people who put in the work on all these items, my hat is off to you. You took it to the next level and put up a valiant effort. Unfortunately to collectors across the world, it appears that this matter has been absolutely SWEPT UNDER THE RUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone did what they could do, but it appears to much money was involved and that aside from true collectors and fans, no one really cared. Not only a disgrace to the autograph community, but to fans and auction houses everywhere.
As far as Bush goes, people like that always get what is coming to them in the end. But it is unbelievable that the authorities didnt take up this matter. It was beyond obvious.
As for Julians, i just am left shaking my head. How and why was this allowed to happen? I highly doubt this will ever effect their business with the masses. Most will think they are still top notch. But among serious collectors, the damage has been done, and the word is out.
After all everyone went through, the bad guys won on this one for the most part. Most of society just doesnt care, they just go with the flow. Its a tragedy.

I'm at a loss what else we can do. By now the Bush auction has established the ridiculous forgeries as a legitimate "variation" and nothing happened, so... where from here?

I don't believe its over Helen. Things have a certain way of working out when "bad guys" do this kind of crap. They do get caught... and greed is usually what does them in. Look how it worked out for Bush. He could have really gone unnoticed had he not gotten greedier. I don't know that anyone screamed fake up until the last auction. I think it honestly would have gone unnoticed. Ahhhhhh but whats better than money? More money! For both Darren and Bush. And we know Darren knew, he was warned weeks in advance to hold up and look at what he had. I believe this will still result in all these idiots sitting behind bars eventually.
I did find it interesting though that Darren has a new way to look at their catalogs online. Just an update.... there are not many MJ items in this newest auction. The way the original advertisement was listed, I read it as if 450 MJ items were going to be sold-but thats not the case. I didn't really study the sigs closely but the telltale dbl L/Bush type sigs are not there this time. Hey Darren, whats the matter? Too close for comfort last time???
