O.k. So on Craigslist I see this Mantle for sale and it comes with a C.O.A. from a South Carolina court appointed forensics expert. To be honest, this looks like a good signature but these court appointed c.o.a.'s scare the hell out of me. They really do.
I called the guy and he said it comes with the COA pictured and a letter which is notarized saying that it was examined by some expert forensic guy out of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Hell, I don't know what to believe anymore. The signature looks decent but then again, i'm not an expert on Mantle myself.
The ruler straight baseline under "tle" concerns me a bit as well as the straight upright construction, but a better image is needed to be certain either way.
By the way, the COA states "Mickey Mantle single signed baseball" -- not photo and it also states "the autograph pictured below" and nothing is pictured below. So basically, this means the COA is useless. If anything, it casts doubt on the item rather than help it.
Would like to see a better scan, but I think it's authentic. That COA is a joke, perhaps the seller figured he needed some sort of "COA" to sell it and found that....
